I'm building a Micro-Startup to help people live in quarantine(COVID-19). What is the biggest problem you are dealing with this new routine?

Hello,

I have felt some things change in my routine that is driving me crazy, and I want to found out if you are dealing with the same frustrations. I would appreciate if you could help me answer these questions:

  1. What is the biggest frustration you are dealing with the quarantine?
  2. Can you detail why it is frustrating?
  3. How are you solving it right now? Have you tried any solutions yet?
  4. Are those solutions working? Or are they missing anything?

Thanks in advance!

And be safe!

As @rosiesherry said the biggest problem is food shopping. I also find when I work from home I get out less as when I work from the office I usually take a walk around at lunch but at home (and with the outside situation being better avoided) I am less likely to go out, although I do walk around the house it isn't the same.

Thanks for the answer @CW92, can you answer these follow-up questionsplease:

Can you tell me why food shopping is a big frustration?
Do you have any alternative to walking, maybe working out at home?

      Thanks,

The biggest problem with food shopping is the queues are stupidly longer and the stocks are low because people are over-stocking.

The problem with working out at home is with 2 young children and my wife at home there isn't much space.

    • Food shopping is stressful. I currently go to our local shops daily to get a small amount.
    • I'm use to juggling kids, but right now it has lots of added stresses
    • I've always worked remotely, so not much change from that perspective
    • I worry about those less well off, or less able. I want to do things to help them, but can't find the headspace atm.

Hi @rosiesherry, thanks for the answer. I have some follow-up questions:

      1. Can you detail what's so stressful about shopping, is it the frequency of having to go out and be exposed?
      2. I imagine having to take care of kids with no school or daycare could be more stressful, could you tell me how are you managing taking care of them?
      3. What do you do in your free time in these quarantine days?

      Thanks in advance.

        1. Partly having 5 kids to feed, another part the shops are often empty, stupid people hoarding. I went to a 'big supermarket' at what I thought was early yesterday (7am), felt stressed about the lack of food and being exposed with my daughter in hand. There are also limits on the food now, which is a good thing, but with 5 kids, the limits don't go far.
        2. My husband and I literally swap kid duty, 3-4 hours at a time. Our 2 year old is the hardest work, it's not so bad with the others.
        3. What free time?!

Thanks for your answer @rosiesherry! And sorry if I sounded naive in the last question I wanted to explore how if any people managed free time in their new routine.

          1. 2

Nah, not naive. I'm just stupid for having 5 kids! :D

Hey not fair to one-upping me with self-deprecating humor! :)

            2. 2

              we'll call it 'preemptive repopulation'

              I kid, I kid.

              Oh crap, there's two more!

I concur with the other comments, our biggest concern and frustration is making sure we can get food, especially if a more serious shutdown occurs and restaurants must close. Right now we're solving this by ordering in for one meal a day, and making one at home each day. But that can only last so long before you run out of food at home. What's missing is rationing of supplies at stores, as well as, enough supplies to keep the community fed.

Additionally, if Amazon warehouses get infections such they need to close, that cuts off a vital link to getting supplies that many people are using to stay inside. That's a current solution that may disappear soon. Some help with "what do we do then" would be useful.

I'm curious, at some point, this will end (hopefully!).

What might be your plans for this idea post-Covid? I could see potential to help people displaced by hurricanes or other natural disasters, but not sure if you're taking it that direction long term.

So, was just curious if you were thinking of extending this idea into the future, or if it's just a good project to do now to help and practice building your skills?

You are right and it is a very interesting answer, having a supply system implemented in each city could be great for this situation and any future natural disaster. Also having a protocol for the worst-case scenario would be very useful, I don't have any idea what could happen given the Amazon warehouse scenario described.
I'm actually doing it because I want to help and learning, it would be great if this project can go LT too. Thanks for the answer.

Can you tell me besides that pain point, do you have any other?
Like not knowing what to do with your free time maybe, if you have any, of course.

    1. Not being able to take my walks outdoors in nature
    2. I am missing out on exercise (it is hard to get as many km at home) It feels super unfair since the chances of infecting anyone when I would never be closer than 2 m to them are very small. And I really miss nature.
    3. Keeping blinds open: letting sunlight in as much as possible. Looking at "walk with me"/ "nature walk" videos while walking at home.
    4. The videos are helping a lot in simulating the feeling of being out in nature. However, it is still difficult to get in the daily 10K recommended steps.

look forward to reading about your solution! anything to reduce the frustrations would be appreciated :)

Same! I am making myself walk at specific points during the day + doing yoga workouts. What has worked for you :)
