I'm Building an IPTV Review Site for Ireland – Here's Why
I've been living in Ireland for a few years now, and one thing that really surprised me was how expensive TV is here.
Sky, Virgin Media — you're looking at €80+ a month for channels you barely watch. And if you want sports? Add another €30-40 on top.
I started testing IPTV services on Irish broadband to find a better alternative. What I found was a mess. Most providers:
Buffer during Premier League matches
Don't carry Irish channels (RTÉ, Virgin Media, TG4)
Have servers based in the US or Asia — so streams lag by 30+ seconds
Promise 4K but deliver pixelated garbage
I tested 12 different services over 3 months. Some were terrible. A few were actually decent. And one genuinely impressed me — stable streams, Irish channels included, 4K quality, no buffering.
So I decided to build Ultra IPTV Ireland — a curated review site that helps Irish viewers find the best IPTV service for their needs.
Why Ireland?
The Irish market is interesting:
35% of households still use traditional TV (FTA DTT)
People are actively looking for cheaper alternatives
The 25-34 age group (my target audience) is 43.9% of streamers
Competition is lower than the US or UK markets
The opportunity is real. People want to cut cable. They just need a reliable guide.
My Plan
Test services thoroughly — actual Irish broadband, peak hours, real usage
Review what matters — Irish channels, sports coverage, 4K quality, stability
Publish honest reviews — no fluff, no fake promises
Build trust with the Irish community — on Reddit, Boards.ie, and here on Indie Hackers
What I've Learned So Far
Server location matters. A provider with servers in Europe will always beat one with US servers for Irish viewers.
Irish channels are non-negotiable. People want RTÉ and Virgin Media — if you don't have them, you lose.
Sports coverage makes or breaks the service. Premier League, GAA, rugby — if it buffers, you're done.
