I'm building the travel company I always wanted to use
Hi.
I'll keep it short and sweet.
I travel a lot, and I'm fed up with browsing random blogs to find where to go, then going to flight comparison sites to book flights, then to hotels.com or airbnb to compare accommodation prices, then finding any website that could tell me how to get from the airport to the hotel. That's a lot of different websites.
That's before we even talk about visa requirements, the type of plug to take, the currency they use and more.
So I wanted a single place where I can find inspiration, then all the information about that place.
So I built it - https://www.trekur.com
I'm pretty happy with the initial idea but there is a difficulty keeping it in Beta. In order for me to get access to embed these functions into the site, I have to have a certain number of visitors per day to be eligible. Therefore I currently have to link to them externally. Yet I can't get users until the site is good enough to do everything without navigating away. Still working on this problem.

Interesting idea. Quick question — have you noticed whether visuals or images play a role in keeping users engaged on the site, especially in the beta stage?
You guys are really doing cool stuff, this is exactly the kind of app I've been missing for my travels. It would be good if the beta version turned into a regular one. It’s a really useful tool, thanks! All the information on the Internet is so different, and it’s easy to get confused over the COVID requirement in a certain country, for example. I will definitely be using this website when traveling to Paris this September.
I have been planning this trip for a long time. I want it to become the first city I visit in Europe. At the same time, I still have the possibility, too, because you never know what will happen to this crazy world next. That’s why I actively study the information provided on Simply France and other open sources to make a consistent plan of all the places I want to visit and how much time I want to spend there in general.

I worked in travel for around 6.5 years, so know the vertical pretty well.
Firstly what is the hypothesis you are looking to solve? What challenges do you see in the space?
You mentioned being frustrated with travel information being fragmented so what is your unique solution?
At the moment it looks as though you've consolidated a number of links on to a page, along with some aggregated content.
Travel planning is a massive problem that hasn't been solved well so far in the industry - for context our consumer research conducted by my old employers indicated a typical family could spend more than 20 hours researching a holiday prior to purchase and around another 20 hours to post purchase broken up across several seperate search journeys.
Thats an awful lot of time!
From my point of view I think you've found a valid problem, but the solution isn't compelling enough for a first time visitor to return.

As you rightly point out, the site is currently linking externally. I’ve struggled to get approved by the companies such as Kayak which would enable me to embed flight searches instead of linking them. The criteria is a certain number of visitors per day. However the difficulty is aquring those users while the site is still mostly links. A bit of a chicken and egg problem.
Looks like an awesome idea. What's your tech stack, (if you're at the liberty of talking about it) ?
