Hey, I'm Anthony. Maybe you know me. It's been a while since I posted here. I run two bootstrapped businesses:
Indie Worldwide is a private community for bootstrapped startup founders which makes about $3000/mo and costs about $800/mo to run.
Bot Eat Brain is a daily ai newsletter that makes about $3000/mo and costs about $3000/mo to run. Growth spending not included.
For the last year, I've mostly lived off of Indie Worldwide profits & savings, paying myself a small salary to work on the business.
I think it was too early to take anything out. I got to Ramen profitability, but now I want more than Ramen.
So for the next 3 months, I'm putting 100% of my profits back into these two businesses and I've sold off about $6,000 in stocks to live on in the meantime.
All Indie Worldwide profits are going back into Indie Worldwide.
All Bot Eat Brain profits are going back into Bot Eat Brain.
My goal is to at least double the size of both businesses in that time & probably start a new venture too. We're going full indie hacker.
That’s the spirit
Anthony doing the best for indie, down to earth with a very active and approachable community. Everytime I go to indihackers I doubt myself :) but went I go to Indie WorldWide I feel warm and welcome :)
Thanks Vinh, that makes me super happy to read.
Godspeed
wait...how does an AI newsletter that makes 3k per month cost 3k to run? Given the lunacy around AI versus the size of the indie hacker market I would use the time to grow the AI newsletter side of things because thats the new hotness and is guaranteed to be spewing fresh content non-stop as it unfolds.
I've hired a small team of researcher/writers and an editor. This lets me focus on the overall voice & direction, marketing, sales, etc.
It's worked so well that it made me want to restructure Indie Worldwide as well to take all the bits that are working over there and duplicate them.
This will refocus the group on sustainability, efficiency, and growth. That takes some money to pay for, to staff up and invest in marketing.
That means there will be a few tight months, hopefully followed by liftoff.
You got this!
Love it, good luck Anthony!
My man 💪🏿 get after it!
How are you going to use the extra time?
What extra time?
The title made me remember that I'm also committed to being broke for some months! Good luck to me and Good luck to you too.
Just two broke boys doing our best
Good luck!
good luck!
Same here. Launching Tidby very soon. Headed to Thailand, India, Bali before coming back to the states next year. Just bootstrapped and grinding till ramen profitability.
Maybe we'll cross path, if you see me say hey
Good luck! Wish you all the best. Any particular strategy in place?
Looking forward to seeing your results :-).
Also could you elaborate on the costs for running the newsletter? Are you outsourcing most of the work?
I've made a small writing team consisting of two writers and an editor. We all work together to research and write each day's issue. No way I could pull off a daily publication solo.
Not so much a strategy as a mindset shift. If I remove my own paycheck from the equation I can make decisions differently. Hopefully with more clarity.
Awesome!
I hope it goes well! Must be tough to commit to that.
Congrats Anthony! Sounds like you already are doing well with building these spaces, but I'm sure with this move to put all money back into these products, you'll see growth + be profitable in no time.
Thanks Tori!
Wishing you the best of luck Anthony! Congrats on making the commitment and looking forward to seeing the progress.
Thank you :)
I have also subscribed to your newsletter. I'm glad to hear about your journey and what a brave move you made! Best wishes for the next three months, Anthony. 👍
Thanks John!
Nothing to add from my site. Good luck man!
Thanks Rafal!
