The 'students learning HTML/CSS' angle feels most promising — AI as a teacher rather than just autocomplete is a real differentiator there.

The no-signup-required approach is smart for a dev tool, it removes the biggest friction point. One thing I'd think about is making the value proposition clearer on the landing page, specifically what makes Pterocos worth using over CodePen or JSFiddle. If the AI builder is the differentiator, leading with a demo or example of what it can generate would go a long way.

Hey Aminekhd, checked out Pterocos — really clean UI, I like how fast it loads and the fact that it's open source. A few thoughts from a fellow free-tool builder:

    1. The "what is this for" answer needs to be front and center on the homepage. Right now I had to dig a little to understand the use case. One line like "Write and preview HTML/CSS/JS instantly in your browser, no setup needed" would hook people immediately.

    2. Keyboard shortcuts would be a big win for the dev audience — things like Ctrl+Enter to run, or tab indentation in the editor.

    3. SEO on the landing page is worth investing in early. Pages like this rank well for queries like "online HTML editor" or "CSS playground" — those are high-intent searches.

I'm building something in a similar space — Toolivoo is a free browser-based toolbox for PDFs, images, QR codes and text. Same philosophy: no login, no friction, runs in the browser. Going through the exact same feedback-gathering phase you're in now so I feel this post!

Keep building — the open source angle is a real differentiator, lean into it.

That means a lot — would genuinely love to explore a collab. Maybe a cross-link or shoutout to start? DM me anytime.

Honest feedback that you might find useful: 'HTML/CSS/JS editor with AI chat' is a crowded category, competing against CodePen, JSFiddle, StackBlitz, CodeSandbox, and Replit. 'No signup, free, AI assist' isn't really a wedge anymore, since most of those tools have matched or moved past it. The better question is who is Pterocos clearly the best choice for. A few angles worth picking one and going all in on: students learning HTML/CSS for the first time (where account friction kills, and AI as a teacher matters more than as a coder), interviewers running live coding screens (zero-setup, shareable links), or designers showing quick prototypes to clients without spinning up a dev environment. Write your landing page entirely for that one user. Trying to be the editor for everyone usually means being nobody's first choice. One side note: asking IH commenters to drop Trustpilot reviews can backfire badly, because reviews from people who didn't actually use the product get flagged and tank your trust score fast.

Agreed on the niche point. The 'students learning HTML/CSS' angle feels most promising — AI as a teacher rather than just autocomplete is a real differentiator there.

      Thanks! that helps!

    Welcome to IndieHackers, Amine!

I just checked out Pterocos, and it's a really clean and lightweight initiative, especially with the AI integration. As a frontend and automation developer, here are a few technical UI/UX feedbacks to help you polish the user experience:

    1. Local Storage Auto-Save: Implementing an auto-save feature to localStorage would be huge. If a user accidentally refreshes or closes the tab, losing their code can be frustrating.

    2. Responsive Live Preview: Right now, the preview is fixed. Adding a toggle button to switch the live preview pane between Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile views would make it incredibly useful for responsive designing.

    3. Console Logs Panel: For JS developers, having an inline console section at the bottom (like CodePen) to catch console.log() outputs directly inside the tool without opening browser DevTools would elevate the DX (Developer Experience).

The AI builder has great potential. Are you planning to add features like auto-generating custom boilerplate components or scraping template layouts into the editor?

Keep up the great work, upvoted! Let me know if you need any help optimizing the frontend workflows.

Really interesting journey! It’s always inspiring to see founders building niche products and sharing their growth strategies openly. The insights about product development, user feedback, and scaling are especially valuable for anyone working on digital projects.

Building a successful online platform requires consistent improvement and a clear understanding of what users are looking for. In the gaming niche, I found a useful resource for GTA fans that provides detailed guides, updates, and download instructions for GTA San Andreas Mod APK

Thanks for sharing your experience — posts like this are incredibly helpful for indie makers and online entrepreneurs.

This looks really promising. Just a couple of small nitpicks. It would be nice to see <! DOCTYPE create the full html boilerplate skeleton, and auto closing tags like <div> <body> auto adding their closing tags to minimize more typing, otherwise that looks like it's going to be a solid tool :)

Cool project! I checked it out — the live preview feature is slick. A few thoughts:

    • Mobile responsiveness — Code editors are tricky on phone, worth testing

    • Dark mode — Devs expect this now, easy win

    • Export/share — Let users share their code snippets with a link

I build similar frontend tools with React. If you ever need help with the UI or want to add features, happy to collaborate.

Such a cool editor! Have you thought about screen sharing mode or peer coding functionalities? I could see this tool working quite well if you are on a call (like google meet) with a friend and want to demo something ... Also it could be used in the case of coding interviews. Well, Im not sure what exactly is your target audience. Personally, if Im going to be coding on a browser, it will be because of a brainstorming session with someone
