I'm proud to be part of a community founded and led by Black entrepreneurs

I thought this recognition of IndieHackers.com by Product Hunt today was cool!

I'm relatively new to the community, but I'm a proud member.

Thank you for your leadership and for this resource! That is all I have to say.

Here's my controversial opinion: Stop differentiating people by their skin color!

I know the intention is good, but why does it matter in the first place?

I moved to the USA 8 yrs ago, and until that day I was just a person, a human. Since then I'm now categorized by the color of my skin and that drives me nuts. I'm (for american standards) "Hispanic/latino" even though I've only visited Spain and Italy once in my life (vacations). If anything I would rather be called "native american" as my ancestry goes for centuries but... why does it matter?

The day we stop discriminating people (wikipedia definition) by their physical appearance and helping those in need (white people can be poor too) then we'll make strides to finish with all this madness.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

While the sentiment is nice, we unfortunaely don't live in a world where this is entirely possible. As an African American, it's nice to have someone to look up to who is where you want to be at. Growing up most of my friends just wanted to play basketball or make music, I didn't have a single friend who was interested in tech. For someone like me, looking at people like Channing helps me strive to keep going. This is my personal anecdote but yes it does matter but I hope we get to a point where it won't

Absolutely. It's a paradox; It's very important to remark the achievements so new generations can get inspired. I wonder by doing so we are unwillingly perpetuating the division.

I wish things could be different. I'm really saddens me. I wish the narrative to be : Look at this engineer who came from this background and now achieved this much (regardless of ethnicity)

But that can come later, we still need to stop this madness first.

Yep, thats my opinion to, "Stop differentiating people by their skin color".

I agree, I think it's bad to put emphasis on the skin color, even if it's in a positive way. I don' t think "positive discrimination" is good either.

Both of these sentiments can exist and be valid at the same time, as I've learned. We can celebrate the fact that this community is created by humans who happen to have a specific skin color. And also point out and wonder 'wait a minute, why does that matter? It shouldn't matter or be an interesting point of conversation'. The later paints a world we'd like to live in. The former reflects the reality that we're not there yet. (I too am not sure what if anything I should say, but for today I've decided to speak my mind. Tomorrow I may retreat to my bashful self :)

I wish everyone thought that way, unfortunately, that’s an idealistic perspective that not everyone shares. While I totally relate and can tell you mean the best, I think it’s important to acknowledge the struggles others face and in turn to celebrate movement in the right direction. As Bhumi said, Both sentiments can exist and be valid at the same time, I think failing to see both leans towards a complacent or defeatist train of thought.
