I'm scared to launch and I need feedback please 🙏

👋 Hi everybody!

I'm planning on launching https://annotate.tv on PH in the next weeks and I would like some feedback please 🙏

  • My main concern is the copy. My mother tongue it's Spanish so I'm not very confident about my english 😅

  • Do you understand what the product does?

Thanks! ✨

Hi, your idea is great. Regarding landing page, nice effort but as I work with a lot of founders at Denovers, there are few key essentials I would like to mention

Have a clear value proposition as a title on the Hero section with a clear CTA. (Ideally capture emails on top). I guess you are good with this.

Define your features and the problem you are solving in a decent and summarized way.

Feature some customer testimonials. You can share your product with friends and family for free to get some early feedback as well as testimonials to feature.

Have a Pricing Table with a clear CTA. Remember you should have pricing ready even if you think you are not ready to sell.

FAQs section. This is again a very important section.

Closure CTA of “Get a Demo”. Create an account on Calendly and embed link over there. Its good to talk to users directly on a one2one session.

Bonus: Install Inspectlet or Hotjar. This will help you in visualizing the user journey and to know what’s working and what’s not. Specially when you are launching on PH as some good traffic is expected.

Let me know if I could be of any other help.

thank you so much! This are all great ideas. I'll work to add the missing ones. Thanks!

Website looks good, what its is, is very clear and sounds like a great idea. I don't think you have anything to worry about launching 😀

    1. 1

Thank you! I hope so 🤞

  3. 2

This is great, @matiastucci. Very clear, especially once I navigated to the live Demo. I'd love to be able to annotate a video as part of the demo experience, too.

This could have great applications for learning. I myself subscribe to a couple of online drum tutorials and this is exactly the tool I need to make those tutorials easier to come back to for regular practice. Well done on the MVP, good luck with the launch.

    1. 1

Glad to hear that! Yeah, maybe I can add that to the demo. It's a good idea. Thank you for the feedback!

Landing page looks good and great idea. Influencer marking with YouTubers that make educational videos are probably going to be your biggest channel of customer acquisition. As a V2 idea, I can also see this being used in platforms that offer educational courses, such as EdEx, Coursera, Teachable etc.

Let me know if you're looking for someone to help with product/project planning I have just about a year of experience and am looking for a project to add to my portfolio and this is a really cool product. I can help for free

    1. 1

hi! thanks for the feedback. I definitely thought about YouTubers but not much about Coursera and those platforms. I think they have their own video platform, right?

About helping, sure! send me an email: my IH username at gmail dot com and we can talk about it. Thanks!

  5. 2

Hey man! This looks great and I have no problem understanding what the product does. Only concern i have is that the live demo page, looked kind of smushed together on my phone and hard to see what's happening. Other than that, really good! 💪

    1. 1

yeah, I still need to work on the responsiveness. Thanks for the feedback!

  6. 2

Hey man, a bit late to the party, great landing indeed! if I really had to give you feedback I'd say that I don't fully understand the problem annotate.tv is solving for me.

I understood it much better after seeing the demo, but I think the headlines could be improved to better specify the use case, like by telling me what is my problem that you're solving for me.

e.g. "Tired of watching interesting videos and forget the most interesting parts?"
"Notes meet videos, so that you'll never miss the good bits again"

I don't know if I explained myself clearly enough, if not feel free to reach out!

    Peace!

  7. 2

At the risk of promoting one of my own products, here's a way to get honest feedback before you launch. No cost to submit it.

    1. 1

love the idea! I'll submit it there. Thanks!

  8. 2

The website looks clean and messaging is clear. All the best for your launch. Remember that it is the first of many launches in the future :)

    1. 1

thank you!! I hope so 🤞

      Suerte!

  10. 2

Tested the tool and also the messaging is clear enough. Go for it Matias!

  11. 2

It's clear, straight to the point, I get it in no time, and I like it!

  12. 2
    • On full screen the video auto play, an important part is below the fold.. when I make it smaller width, the height is better, weird scaling... maybe reduce some of the white spaces so it fits, or move the buttons bellow...
    • While the video demonstration is good. It would be better if you can put useful cases, "coming on stage" IDK why I'd do that, if you put like a sports game and annotate with a move or something it makes more sense, or something with a slide / that has topics or reference to elsewhere...
    • So afterwords you have some use case as "classmates", so how about the video demonstrating a lesson and meaningful notes...

(you know people take notes with time markers on youtube?..)

Does this support any video stream? or just youtube?... (like the page doesn't point to anything specific..)

    Looking at the "demo"

    • Be nice if I can extend the text sidebar, to read more and watch less, even your example video is more about listening than watching, so the text is more interesting and I'd shrink the video to see the text..
    • Shouldn't the PDF list the time marks?

I don't think I'm a user, but it seems decent for people to use - ship it and continue working on it.

    1. 1

      Thanks for the feedback!

      • didn't understand that part. Full screen video using the youtube feature? Can you explain it more, please?

      • yeah, makes sense! I'll look for a clearer video and annotations to shop

      • Currently it only supports YouTube but I'm working on supporting local and Vimeo videos too

      • I'll add the time marks to the PDF too. Good call.

      1. 1

Play with different screen size and you'd probably see...
On a 1080 screen Linux Chrome, split screen horizontal, was seeing the video up with the text typing
When I put it to normal full screen I didn't see the text typing only the title, so it looks for long seconds to not be doing anything asides from the video just playing

  13. 2

Great idea! Who is your product for, would you say?
Next thought is about your pricing. Do the 5 videos for the "free" plan mean 5 videos ever? Or 5 videos each month, and you get 5 more "credits" each month you can use, while retaining every video you've ever marked up?

    1. 1

Anyone uses YouTube to learn or teach. Or just want to save notes to later find it quick.

I was thinking on 5 videos ever. So if you have 5 videos and want to create a new one you will need to delete one. But maybe is not clear enough... I should work on that copy.

      1. 1

Cool, yeah I suggest you tweak the wording there a bit to make that more clear. I still like the idea!

  14. 2

The website looks great and I understood everything! What did you use for the css and styling?

    1. 1

cool, thanks! I'm using https://ant.design for some components like buttons, inputs, time picker. The rest I did it myself.

  15. 2

Good idea. I personally have probably watched hundreds of hours of Youtube videos with interesting people or about COVID-19, but I can never remember which video contained some interesting piece of information, so it is essentially lost.

We definitely want to integrate something even stronger into OrgPad in the future. It is important to be able to write notes for videos, to be able to combine various videos, cuts, etc. Further, in OrgPad, one could represent these notes visually instead of just a list.

    1. 1

Yeah, that's how I came with the idea :) Thanks!

  16. 2

This looks really cool. Love the idea. The feedback below already includes a lot of great advice.

    1. 1

thank you! yeah, I have a lot to work on :)

  17. 2

Matias: Stop slacking, go for it! you'll make mistakes, you'll learn, you'll become stronger!

  18. 2

    Love this idea

    1. "Take notes on videos easily" is a good headline but something is off. Maybe merge the main headline and the sub headline into "Take searchable notes on YouTube videos"?
    2. Love the demo
    3. I like "Try it" instead of "get started"

overall I love the idea and the site. Super simple but tells me everything I need to know

    1. 1

Yeah, I will think about merging both titles and adding YouTube to the main one. Thanks!

  19. 2

Hey, your landing page looks great. Btw your pricing page lists 'premium' as free!

    1. 1

Thank you! Yeah, that's intended. It's free during the beta. Thanks for letting me know though.

      1. 2

        Hi Matias 👋

I like the product, so you have nothing to worry about IMO.

Eventhough your product is free during beta, I would list a price to communicate value (normally $49, but FREE during beta). Without a price, I get the impression that it's a free tool, and I could sign up tomorrow as well.

If I saw a big price tag with the claim it's free now, I would sign up right away.

        Just my thoughts 😊

        1. 2

          yeah, that makes sense. Thanks!

  20. 2

Launch! Get feedback. Iterate. The video showing the product is simple and effectively gets the value prop across so good job.

  21. 2

Great idea, and great execution. I get it too. Launch! 🚀

  22. 2

I understand and like the product go launch 🚀🚀🚀

    1. 1

      Awesome, thank you! 😄

  23. 2

Overall A really cool concept, I am currently a college student and it's a pain having to switch back and forth from a word document and a lecture video. In the future try and incoperate with some colleges or professors.

    1. 1

I was thinking about that too. I'm not a student anymore so I'm not very connected in that area but it's definitely something I need to explore. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and if you try it and have any feedback don't hesitate to contact me.

  24. 2

Love the idea. I'd highly recommend having a dark theme option because I'm sure people on PH are going to request that.

    1. 1

It's on my backlog already. Thanks for the feedback 😊

  25. 2

Hey Matias, you have nothing to worry about, the messaging is clear.

Here are some suggestions, feel free to ignore them all:

Add timestamped notes to YouTube videos in a fast and easy way

You've already covered the "easy" part in the heading, so you could make this line crisper or even get rid off this and change the heading to "Take notes on YouTube videos easily".

    1. Timestamped
    2. Extension
    3. Export
    4. Share

You could rename "Timestamped" to "Search" or "Index", since for a user it is easy scanning of notes that annotate.tv is enabling.

Also, 1, 3 and 4 are features and I feel like 2 does not belong with the rest. You could consider renaming and reordering them to

    1. Single-click
    2. Search
    3. Export
    4. Share

I'm not too happy with "single-click", but it still sounds more like the feature you want the user to notice rather than the implementation detail that there is an extension available.

Again, I'm just nitpicking because you asked for suggestions. I perfectly understand what your product is doing. Launch away! All the very best!

    1. 2

      FYI

      I just changed to:

      1. Integration
      2. Search
      3. Export
      4. Share

I'm still thinking about the headline 🤔

      this was very helpful! thanks!

    2. 1

Hey, thank you so much for all your feedback! I really appreciate it. You are right that the fast part sounds a little repetitive. The reason I didn't added YouTube to the main headline is because I plan on supporting local videos too. But maybe I can add it for now until I ship that feature.

About the rest, it makes sense. You are right that the extension thing is not a feature and feels weird between the other ones. I'll give it more thought.

      Thank you!

  26. 2

I think it is clear. Your product idea is easy to understand - which is good. I wouldn't worry about the launch.

    1. 1

this is nice to hear! Thanks 🙏

  27. 2

Seems pretty clear to me. Love that you have a working demo a single click away, allows you to play with the product right away and decide if that's something you need. Good job, don't be scared!

    1. 1

Cool, glad you like it. Thanks!

  28. 2

it looks great to me - I use Tella.tv for this but wow, this is cool!

  29. 2

Love the idea! Only language note that I saw, in the "Add to chrome" button on the New Video tab, the text should read "Watch a 20 second video to know how it works." instead of "Watch a 20 seconds video to know how it works."

    You've got this! :-)

    1. 1

awesome, I'm fixing it right now. Thanks!

  30. 2

Why is your premium membership free during the beta?

    1. 1

Because I didn't finish all my premium features yet

      1. 3

Ask them to signup with a credit card but only charge them when those features are ready. This will be a forcing function for you to go finish development of those features.

  31. 1

I think it's good for launching!

      thanks for all the feedback!

      • Extension: you are right that create sounds confusing. Maybe I should say add. It's not to create annotations per se tho. Check a 20 seconds demo: https://youtu.be/MiiKrvxSNbo. You click the extension and automatically adds the video into annotate.tv

      • Demo: yeah, I was thinking maybe doing a quick video demo of annotate and use annotate itself to show more info about each segment. Not sure if I'm being clear

      • Pdfs: didn't think about it but it's a great idea 😄

      • ippsec.rocks: it's awesome! didn't know it

      Thanks!
