Hello IH,
We don't know each other that much yet.
I'm a member since 2017, I sometimes read incredible posts from incredible makers here, but I've never posted anything, I have never contributed : I have this small imposter syndrome...
But I'm trying my best : I'm focusing little by little everyday in order to make, to imagine, to build, to have new ideas, to dream, to realize and most of all : to succeed launching a great product!
So I created something, on my side, mostly alone or adviced by my wife and close friends (only people which believe in me 100% especially when I'm wrong).
And here we are, I think my MVP is ready!
I'm now diving into the second level of the imposter syndrome...
Now, my incredible project needs to be supported and approved by the world!
It will work, for sure,
if the (only) 10 to 50 other nomads, buffers, gumrodies have succeeded... then I will also be the maker of the year.
...
... ...
...
Dude, STOP right here,
Let's be honest :
"Where is you personal network?"
"Are you an active community member?"
"Do you share interesting content to the maker community?"
So dude, 99% sure your content wont be noticed at all.
This was an extract from my head on an early morning weekend.
Hope your head is not as messy as mine,
Just as a reminder : your success is in the relations you will create with humanity, not only in your product.
Have a great weekend,
Take a break,
Don't forget : you are incredible π€©
Hey there! Following you for a while, nice project. By the way, I think it's not the quite right place to promote your project. For example - I'm a petrolhead, but currently driving boring lancer(with manual gearbox but still). And I want to join everycars, but right now I just don't have a classic car.
So proper choice for you would be not chasing computer geeks from IH, PH, HN, but focusing on niche car owners communities. For example - subreddits of some classic models, facebook groups, etc.
Good luck with the project! I will definitely join when I buy that 986/996/997 Porsche :)
ππ―
Exactly, even if you don't have your own audience, try tapping into one with more overlap of your product niche.
Great feedback!
The question I'm all the time wondering is : How do you do to drive smoothly into these new communities when you are such a newbie (like me) in front of true experts?
Pretend you talk to a real person face to face
And you try to give before you take if possible
Remember that people like to share their passion (the base of your project)
Yep! This is what I'm trying to achieve π
Duuude!
Thank you for this comment : I'm really happy to know I have someone (other than me) following my project, it means a lot π
You are totally right about finding the right channel to find right people to target. It took me several months to realize that, but now I know I will find most of my users on reddit: the community around cars is freaking HUGE there.
I still continue to post and document my project into geeky places like IH, PH and HN, because I know I will find some great people to talk to about technical things, and I do LOVE making (true) jokes about how bad I am at coding...
But for example, I know that when I will launch everycars on PH, I would absolutely need to explain in my first comment that this project don't belong to this targeted community, and that I'm looking for technical feedbacks.
I'm thinking about telling people to redirect my project to their surrounding petrolhead (I assume it's a great idea?).
Anyway, your comment made me realize that I didn't reactivated the option of posting his/her dreamed car on everycars.co π±
I'll tell you when I will have pushed this feature to welcome you the proper way!
You're welcome! Everycars is a good project idea and it deserves to be popular.
that generally a good idea(and it will work in some way), but still not a repeatable marketing strategy :)
okay, I'll be waiting for invite!
You're the man π

Your project needs car enthusiasts not software hackers
As in that list of resources is not where your potential users spend their time
You should find group related to this interest be it in FB,Reddit, blogs or other communities
Correct, most of them are actually on reddit: huge community around cars!!
This post is mainly to share my state of mind right now π€©
Your super high on andrenaline
Nice to be not alone in this boat. Eventually, we'll get through, bro!
We will for sure!
Free plug for SparkToro. It's a great way to find where your audience hangs out.
gonna have a look
I've written a case study on this very "building audience" idea (as that's what I interpret your post boils down to):
https://maximzubarev.com/causality-between-building-a-preemptive-audience-and-business-success-a-case-study
Note, that I don't post this link here just to get visitors, I sincerely think it can help you.
The TLDR is this: In most cases, your audience won't make your product successful. In fact, a good product has usually done more for building an audience around it (or the makers) than the other way around. A common exception to that rule are info products.
Therefore, I suggest you focus more on building a good product, and instead of thinking around multiple corners and investing energy into building your own audience, who might (or might not) convert to users at some point, try to get users directly (e.g. by talking to potentially interested people, showing them, showing their friends, etc.).
Basically, your product should be the center of everything you communicate to others while you keep building and iterating your product whenever you don't talk to others about it.
0% weirdo is right.
We all feel this way at some point.
Had us in the first half...
Yep, you hit the nail on the head with this - made that mistake building my first product with without an audience and without a properly validated idea
But dude, I'm still struggling sooo much to build me a proper audience.... Most of my tweets are sooo unanswered π±π±π±
Lucky me: I just bought a great e-book about how to leverage his twitter community!
Now I need to read it.....! π
Awesome project, it seems like a niche market but I can see you gathering a nice community.
If you ever break into the Cyprus market (they just LOVE their cars) I will surely bring my Lotus Elise to a nice pimpin' ;)
If you know how to locate the Cyprus community online, then drop me a line, I'll contact them: we need EVERY CARS on this website π
And thank you for your comments, really nice π
It seems to me they kinda just discovered the Internet recently... haha :)
There are some car groups on Facebook you can find, some race tracks on Limassol and maybe Larnaca too I've seen some times on Facebook. Maybe if you contact them, but I would imagine you would have to market it with... personal care. But they are pretty enthusiastic so maybe it's worth a shot.
Dude, you should see some designs of classic cars clubs...
In fact watch these:
These are just 3 of an incredible list of people which discovered the internet a century ago π
I'm gonna have a look on the infos you gave π
hahaha hey it ain't broken so far! and they're still running. they stood the test of time that says something.
I just love how they just embedded twitter and facebook and kept everything else as is :D

Hey @anilkilic, great analysis, definitely aligned with the question about target/channel.
I've commented upper in the discussion : from now I definitely know my audience is on reddit, there are soooo many subs about cars, probably at least one by make.
I need to push harder on IG, I think there is a lot of potential here too, especially with great visual posts! I've written an article about the link between IG and my side project here
What classic car lovers are doing is to document their project build step by step, and this is what they are doing on social network (some of them are creating a dedicated website just for that). But what they are asking is a place to group all these posts. This is basically what everycars does: you create your project, and you document everything on the same place. Your build steps are not mixed with everyones other steps.
From now I'm needing content, so definitely inviting people as honored member could be a great idea!

Hey @Primer, there is a two sidded approach here, and very difficult to choose:
First approach is to create a landing page, with explanations, informations, and screenshots of the community. This is what I've done for the last year without great results, maybe it was not well marketed?
While I was publishing this landing page, the biggest feedback I was receiving was people wanting to jump directly into the community instead of reading a landing page...
Second approach is to put the visitor in the middle of the product when he arrives on the website. This is what I've just designed and testing actually. But my first 2-cents are telling me that this page needs more explanations.
This is exactly the question we were wondering about with @unremute a couple of days ago here join the discussion, we need you!
Anyway I kept my old landing page, and transformed it as an about page π
I think this can be solved with a Hero Section and a short description text on the feed page.
Kind of like this: https://www.signils.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/2021_01_30_12_19_18_Classic_cars_restoration_community_specialists_are_on_everycars.co_.png
DONE! what do you think of this?
https://everycars.co
Duude, that's a GREAT idea! Really smart! Gonna add this Hero Section! And I propose to rename these "Hero Section" as "Razermuse Section" ππ
Looks great!
Man your not focusing on the customer and what he wants
You have a 2 sided platform
(Oversimplified, badly worded but you'll get it)
Frequently in these platforms you start focusing on the content producers cause chicken and egg...
To do this you make them register and put some content on their profile and push them to share something about their project..
