I've been doing research on this topic for Zero to Users and think I can provide some unique insight in terms of WHEN it's a good idea to start with some channels.

    • Paid marketing. No "right time". If you have the budget, do some small $50-100 tests for high-intent keywords (for eg, if you're providing a tool that makes memes, bid for "meme maker", if you're providing a Slack extension for creating wikis, bid for "slack wikis". Btw these are examples from actual IndieHackers interviews, see this post).

    • The channel that works for you depends largely on:

    a) How 'saturated' that channel is (if competitors are funded startups advertising on Google and they can pay, say, $200 to acquire a customer that pays $20/month, knowing they can allow to wait 10 months to see their return on investment), you have low chances to compete against them (unless you're funded as well)

    b) If your target customers are on those channels. No point to try with FB Groups if you have 0 groups in your niche

    c) Your writing. You need to be subtle/useful enough so people see value in your post/community/video, overly promotional things won't get you anywher.e

    Hope this helped.

Too many questions for one post. You've asked the right questions but you didn't tell us who you are. Only if we know you and what you do we can help you more.

As for the title: generally SEO, social, blog, community.. etc and a mix of all these, conversion focused blogs with lead magnets for example.

Yup, this post has multiple questions just to have a feed that I can run back to as a reference.
