I came across this article which claims that App Store search indexes several locales for each country, i.e. US App Store uses information from both en-US and es-MX locales to compute the relevance of the app. This can be used to double the number of keywords in title, subtitle and keywords. I've recently tried this out by introducing a Spanish-Mexican locale to the CallTap App Store listing and filled it with keywords relevant for my app in the US. I saw a huge bump in rankings for keywords like "record calls" or "record phone calls" which I had targeted in the Mexican localization.
This is a really useful tip!
So if I understand correctly you are using English words in the Mexican/Spanish keywords? Did you have to translate the app into Spanish for the localized version?
I use English in the Mexican Spanish store localization except for grabar llmadas
The store localization and app localization are independent from each other.
Oh I never thought of store localization and app localization as being separate. Do you have a version of your app in Spanish or is it in english in both versions? And what about the App Store description?
The app is only in English. The store description is not indexed by App Store search. Title, subtitle and keywords are the only search relevant fields. I use https://www.deepl.com/translator to translate the description. Only works for European languages but the results are better than Google.
Thanks for the tips!
