In 2011 I gave the business 1000 days

Back in 2011, I started a web agency with a guy I met while we took our bachelor's.

We each had a small freelance business but wanted to make something real together.

When we started we only had one client and some of the payments were in the form of sandwiches (it was a café). Not great, but hey, you have to start somewhere!

We weren't the only company to start from our batch of students. There were a handful of others. But one by one they closed. Some after a few months and some after a little after.

It's just too hard to start something without a network, any real prior work experience and so on. So what did I do to try to change the odds?

I gave it 1000 days.

Luckily I heard the Tropical MBA podcast and they talked a lot about the 1000 days principle. (https://www.tropicalmba.com/living-the-dream/)

This made sense for me because it gave me a clear goal. To have a business where a salary could pay the rent and food.

That goal helped a lot when we did whatever it took to keep the company going. We did WordPress websites and Google Adwords (Google Ads). But to keep going we set up printers, helped with network cables, and whatever else people associate with "doing internet stuff".

I could park my doubts as long as we moved in the right direction. Even when it was at a snail's pace.

"Life's a marathon, not a sprint" (I love all those corny metaphors), but that mindset has really helped me a lot.

Now the company is 11 years and we're 38 employees :O

.... And I just left the day-to-day work to start a new company.

To be an Indie Hacker.

I'm not really sure what product I'll make. I think a SaaS of some kind (hit me up with ideas and partnerships, guys!)

It's scary starting over, but for me, it's about freedom. And I'll start my count over.

So goodbye day 9886. And hello day 49.
