Indie Hackers Meta: What Are Followers and Points?
I've been lurking on Indie Hackers for about a month. There are more than a few things I don't understand.
- What are followers?
I've followed a few people but I can't tell that this does anything. I don't see their posts in any special way, so what's the benefit of following someone, or of being followed?
- What are Points?
I've got eight points as of this morning. I don't know how I acquired them or what it means to have them. What can I do with these points?
The new posts of the users you follow show up in the
Followingtab on the home page of Indie Hackers.You get 1 point when someone upvotes one of your posts or comments. As for what points do, I guess all or most of what you get is status. The Indie Hackers feed doesn't seem to give your content any extra ranking.
Points are useless. Followers are somewhat useful. These two aspects are just poorly designed.
Consider points as your-sense-of-self-importance-meter :)
