I've always been a huge fan of those classic RPGs and the pixel art aesthetic.
And, since I injured myself playing football last weekend and was pretty much confined to my desk, staring at the computer screen, I thought, why not create a little game that captures that old-school magic but with a twist?
What if I could integrate ChatGPT into a RPG game? Being able to chat with every NPC, each with their own unique backstory!
That's where the idea for this weekend project came about. The end result is the (unofficial) IndieHackers RPG: "Tale of the Forgotten Key".
It's my love letter to those epic 8-bit adventures of the past, but I've spiced it up with some AI-driven conversations.
Also, the game is packed with nods to the indie hacking community and the startup scene.
Can't wait for you to check it out, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I hope you have a blast playing it and catch all the references!
Lov, hi, I understand your point. I couldn't find anything worthwhile myself for a long time. Especially when it comes to live casinos—the requirements are higher there, because it's immediately obvious where the platform is well-designed and where it's not. I've been playing for several years now, and my goal now is to minimize losses and play more consciously. I don't jump at every bonus anymore, but rather focus on the convenience and fairness of the platform. Honestly, I quickly abandoned most sites because of either lag, strange delays when placing bets, or an overloaded interface. Now I play most often on wageron games. Everything is https://wageon-h.click/73516/8357?l=3990&utm_source=ia pretty simple there: log in, choose a table, and play. No unnecessary clutter. Live games run smoothly, and there's no feeling of anything slowing down at the most crucial moment.
Plus, I noticed that the limits are reasonable—you can play with small amounts and, if you want, raise your bets without limits. Overall, this is more of an option for those who are a bit more familiar with the game and know what they're looking for. It's suitable for beginners too, but will be appreciated more by those who have already tried different platforms.
This really made me feel nostalgic. Your work is excellent, please continue.
Thanks, man! There will be a sequel at some point. I left out too many references, and I feel like I need to use them.
Did you enjoy chatting with the NPCs?
It's exciting, and please add more characters and plot. A mobile version would be great.
Super cool! When the mobile version?
I don't think that is happening, sadly. This was nothing more than a weekend project to pass the time.
This is incredible! Very funny game indeed
Thanks! Did you enjoy being able to chat with NPCs?
Yep, that's the best part of the game. The responses are always funny
What a fantastic idea, blending classic RPGs with AI-driven conversations!
Thanks! It's nothing new though...There are some crazy demos, like Skyrim with all its NPCs' dialogues powered by AI (make sure to check it out!) But I thought it would be cool to go further back in time and mix Gameboy games with AI for a more stark contrast.
Good Game It remembered me of old days
what prompt did you use to make the personnage ?
It wad fund bro, good work
This is cool! But alas, anytime I chatted with an NPC other than Mom, I got blank text.
Also, how did you make this? Is there a library that just let's you create something that looks like a Gameboy game?
Hmm, that is strange. It's probably a bug. Try refreshing the page.
I didn't use any library, I coded it myself with a bit of help of my trusty ChatGPT assistant.
That really cool. Thank you for sharing and building this game. I showed it to my children (ages 10 and 12). They were shocked: "that's how you played games back then!! Super bad graphics" ;-) I like it!
I bet that if they push through the first 5 minutes of any old Pokémon game, then they will be totally hooked!
;-)
