If you're like me, you must have gone through multiple cycles of getting excited about something, then losing interest in the idea gradually. It's easy to get excited about an idea, but harder to sustain the motivation.
I realized that to avoid repeating the same cycle, I need to be choosy about what things I would like to work on. I should know why I am doing it and should avoid the pitfalls of my past attempts.
So I created a few rules for myself before I commit to an idea. I call it an idea sieve. For eg, in most of my side projects, I procrastinated setting a price tag. So I have decided, that unless I have a clear way to sell the product, I should avoid picking the idea.
Here's my full blog post (a total of seven filters): https://shubhamjain.co/2023/08/01/indie-hackers-idea-sieve/.
Do you have any others you think would help?
