Initial traction for SaaS through free content?

Hey guys,

I have recently finished working on my MVP (http://www.trybrandy.com). I'm lucky enough to be able to test within my current company as I have built it to solve our own problem. However now I'm thinking about getting a bit more people on my mailing list and also to the beta.

One of my ideas was to use the tool itself to make free content which I could share within the design community. This could be for example a list of color palettes for your next project or a collection of vector illustrations.

Did anyone have a success with a similar approach? Or do you think this is an overkill in the early stage I'm in?

I don't have any experience with this myself but from what I read this seems like a solid idea.

Free content (especially practical tools and such) are probably one of the greatest ways to drive traffic and create some brand recognition within the right circles.

Only one way to find out, make it happen and analyse results!!

    Good luck!! :)

Yep, thinking the same. I will run this experiment soon but decided to start with more direct sales first to test the waters. It's quite tempting to try generating traffic early on but feels like I need to validate more first.

I personally think the best way to get early traction/users is to do everything that doesn't scale

Invest in 1-10 people to get onto your product and provide real feedback, then use that same feedback as social proof for scalable marketing.
