Initial users through Reddit DMs?
We're about to start a beta for an accountability app (someone checks in your goals and progress each day)
Has anyone here had success DMing potential users on reddit? Any tips
Trying to get 20 into the beta (it's free for testers), still got 10 to go...

Why choose DMs over posting in relevant subreddits and starting a discussion around your project?
Mainly because we're not ready yet (tech, website and concept etc). Want to get first real beta users to test the concept (with all the rough edges) before going out to share wider.
