For your average text editor, you can insert an image by uploading from your local drive. Or you can connect to a cloud service or via direct URL. Some even let you paste your clipboard directly. Those solutions work swell if you have a photo ready!
What if you want to take that picture now, using your cell phone? Maybe it's installation diagrams, a knitting pattern, or a serial number panel. Well, you'd have to open your camera app, shoot it, preview it, then share it with your email. Back on your computer, you'd then have to sign-in to your email provider, refresh five times, download image, and insert as per first paragraph.
That's a lot of steps. My cell phone knows my computer. Why can't I just click a button to have my cellphone prompt me to open camera app; I take the picture and it automagically appears on my computer screen?
Problem: friction exists between recording image and inserting it into digital document
Solution: allow cell phone camera to act as input device to computer, seamlessly
Hi, have you thought about how you would offer this? As an extension to existing note-taking software?
That's definitely an idea that I had myself, so a simple solution would be nice.
Glad to hear others are experiencing this as a worthwhile friction to solve.
I'd look to develop core functionality before dealing with streamlined integration that the extension would require. I'd likely approach/study successful 'editors' out there like Froala or Tiny to fake up a prototype video and pitch it back to them. Once functionality gets figured out and interaction flow is streamlined, then I'd package it as a standalone extension - if the demand proves to be there.
TL;dr: first test as part of WYSIWYG editors used in web design, then spin up as more feature-rich extension (think Grammarly)
