what is an Instagram bot?

An Instagram bot is essentially a program which does what you do on Instagram. i.e. it does liking, following, commenting, etc.

It could also be a bot that auto responds to DM's or auto DM's users about promotions.
Of course there are some bots that you give the text to them and they send the messages to whome you have set.

Til now, I see no bug or getting block by IG and everytime I mae my payment in a correct way with no problem. I think we can say that it is reliable.
It could be almost anything, but most commonly, it is a fake account which posts some stuff regularly and tags a bunch of people to get their attention, eventually, everyone starts bocking it and one-day Instagram disables the account, then the spammer creates a new one and REPEAT

Yup, I have written scripts which monitor new subscribers to some accounts and then send them add requests (People who join accounts I target are like are more likely to also subscribe to mine), and some other nonsensical stuff as well (not proud of it)
If you follow all the tips and terms of services and policies of that tool, you'll face no issue and be spamming.
I am using one over a year. And there is no alart and blocking by Instagram.
That might be true "for now", just like fb and twitter , there is a concept of annular purging and house-cleaning, thats when many accounts get "purged". Also, I gather that the whole purpose of such bots is to get more subscribers and the best way to do that is to eithe connect with others regularly (safe option) or tag them (almost like a shoutout) <--- this is frowned upon by many, and then there is always "Luck" :) :)
you're right but even if you use them manually and don't follow the privacy policy and rules your account will get blocked.

Could you maybe elaborate on your question? We aren't getting that much context here.
I have two guesses:
You are talking about software programs that automatically act on the Instagram platform. e.g: Liking posts, commenting, sending PMs,...
You are talking about platforms that can post content at a predetermined time frames. e.g: later.com
I'm talking about a platform that has your both factor together because I don't have free time to manager my Instagram account.
