Intro + General sense of positivity; specifics lacking

First post in the IH community, so I'm writing this by way of introduction and hope I can contribute more to the community in the future.
I'm a software/cloud engineer based in Asia, been working for a couple of years and decided to take some time off over the summer to pursue some sort of Indie Hacking project before deciding what to do next. Generally (irrationally?), I'm feeling quite positive about Indie Hacking, despite lacking a concrete plan at this point. I have a couple of ideas that have come to me from general life, but I lack specific, deep knowledge of any one industry.
I'm not completely new to this - I attempted to launch web design, hosting and tutoring businesses in the past but they were always a minor focus compared to my studies/career and I was not truly passionate about them, so they fizzled out.
I do have this deep belief that an internet business of some sort will take off, however, and I just need to begin by interrogating all my ideas, skills and passions to decide what to try, and test it in the real world (also acknowledging a tilt towards iteration rather than perfection in any one idea). That's why I'm dedicating at least three months, full-time to this (without travel) over the summer.
Finally, I fully expect to fail in one or more of my pursuits, and I'm not approaching this expecting a guaranteed cookbook for success. I'm here to learn and experiment. I've read far too many books to count on entrepreneurship, lifestyle design, philosophy, business, etc., that I can probably recognise pitfalls if pointed out to me, but I lack the experience in action to validate this. Anyway, getting that experience is what I'm trying to do now. I also have time-blocked this for the summer, such that, if it doesn't appear to be working by September, I'm not flailing around without a source of income.
So how does this sound? Is it common to decide to be an Indie Hacker first and then go in search of an idea, regardless of industry background?
