I had recently shown my daughter, who is 16, freeCodeCamp. She liked it at first but seemed to start losing steam after about a week.
Then I listened to the podcast with the guy from Webflow and thought maybe that might be something that held her attention better. Plus, with all the talk about no code I wanted to take a look myself.
As we played around with it I was really impressed. I went through the pricing models with her and explained how she could even use it to potentially make some extra money if web building was something she enjoyed doing.
I'm thinking I could help her build out a family site with the CMS feature that we could use to build trip journals.
Who knows, maybe she'll join Indie Hackers someday? :-)
I've used Webflow for several years now. Not only is my current project built upon it (DesignJoy.co), but many of our clients use us for Webflow development. Once you learn the tool, the speed at which you can crank out beautiful custom websites is unmatched.
An added plus of Webflow is even though it's a visual websites builder, the tool doesn't ignore elements of code like divs, float, margin, padding, flex box, etc. This, in turn, will help your daughter understand how things are built and can very easily translate into actual web development some day, or at least give her a major head start.
We're on a road trip to Florida right now so hope to put together a quick web page about it when we get back. Will post!
That is awesome! Be sure to share some of her work if she ends up producing some output. My kids are still very little (under 3), so I am not there yet, but I look forward to the day I introduce my kids to development.
