Introducing Travelboard (with free credits!)

Hey everyone, I'm happy to introduce you to ⛩️ Travelboard.app!

I've turned my full time, 7 figures developer job into a part time position a few month back to allow myself to work on this.

It is a real version of an MVP I had done for myself a couple years ago and that was amazingly useful on my trip to Japan.

Whilst I have plenty of dev experience, Marketing is brand new to me so I'm learning the ropes. What do you guys and girls think?

And to thank you reading up to here, anyone who buys a credit in the next 24h will get 4 other free credits added to their account!

Happy to hear any feedback, positive or negative

Tip for talking about your startup, ALWAYS put what it does.

You said 'I just launched Travelboard!'

But I don't know what it does. Why should I care?

You should say 'I just launched Travelboard, which organizes your travels in seconds'

That lets me know more and makes me interested in checking it out.

Congrats on the launch! I'm curious how you landed on your pricing plans? IMO, I think you're undervaluing your product & services.

      Thanks for your comment :)

It's my second iteration on the pricing. My initial version had a free version limited to the number of activities you could have and then a paid subscription at $5 a month / $36 a year. But informal talks with potential users always went along the way of

"wow, cool, nice... (arrives at the pricing)... [enthusiasm disappears]"

I don't have the budget for a big A/B testing campain, but I think starting low and then once I nail the other aspects of the app enough that I get a significant amount of CTA, I can revisit that.

What is the core challenge you're solving with Travelboard? If your target audience is unwilling to pay $5 for access to your app as it stands, I wonder if the issue is a matter of weak value proposition (i.e., your product doesn't solve a "hair on fire" problem) rather than a lack of features.

        1. 1

That is entirely possible indeed. I would say tough that the 5$ per trip has not been properly tested yet, as I have yet to generate a lot of traffic toward the website since the change in the pricing, and of course, other parameters than the price might stop people.

From here on out, answering this question is key!

I like the idea, I could see this being useful when planning a trip! I can see the interface stopping some people from using it, however, it looks a bit amateurish.

While I agree there's room for improvement with the design, I don't think the interface will prevent people from using the product at this stage (as long as it's solving a significant pain point for those users).

Thanks for your feedback! Is there a screen in particular that looks amateurish to you or is it more of a general vibe?

Hey, I can't include pictures in my comment so I'll try to be as descriptive as possible.

I'd say the overall style of the website lacks shadows and cohesive color themes, I'm not an expert in the matter, but visual component libraries like TailwindUI or MaterialUI could definitely help your website have a more cohesive feel.

For example, in your hero section gif, the screen where you add a location to visit, the dropbox for dropping an image has a checkered black border, I haven't seen one of these in any modern design, dropboxes are usually checkered and the border light gray.

Once again tho, it looks like a really great product, congrats!

Thanks a lot for this detailed answer. I see what you mean and I think it boils down to the fact my interest in web design peaked in like 2006. (Fun fact, a previous version of the site used the Lobster police for the headers to the outcry of a few people). I should probably revisit that with more modern web app design resources for inspiration, and put more effort on a coherent design system. Thanks.

Hey, congrats on the launch! I think this is a super cool idea. I just followed you on twitter (@jordan8bernard).

I have some familiarity with the travel industry. I think a potential route that you could take the marketing is by getting in contact with travel agents.

    1. 2

      Thanks 👍 , I followed you back.

That's definitely a route I'd like to take, I just wanted to get some more confidence first with b2c customers, especially as I don't have myself any familiarity with the travel industry so it will be a bit of an uphill battle.

If you have any industry insights though I would receive them with open arms.

hey congrats on the launch - the laptop image was remaining black for long time for me!

Thanks, I'll look in optimizing the video and adding a fallback.

Can I ask what sort of internet speed you have? Fibre, DSL, 5G...?
