Introduction

Most people don't realize that a photo straight from their phone carries a hidden payload: GPS coordinates of where it was taken (often their home), the exact device model, timestamps, and editing history. Post that photo to Facebook Marketplace, send it to a client, or upload it to a forum — and you've quietly handed strangers a map to your front door.

The "solutions" out there are frustrating:

  • Desktop apps (ExifTool, etc.) require command-line skills most people don't have.

  • Online scrubbers ask you to upload your sensitive photos to their servers — which defeats the entire point of removing private data.

  • Paid SaaS tools lock basic privacy behind a subscription.

I built ImgScrub to fix all three problems at once: a clean, free, browser-based toolkit where the files never leave your device. Everything — EXIF stripping, compression, conversion, bulk handling — runs locally in JavaScript. No accounts, no uploads, no tracking, no upsell wall.

The bigger mission: privacy tools should be the default, not a premium feature. If one more person avoids doxxing themselves on Craigslist because ImgScrub existed, the project did its job.
