Thanks for sharing. I agree with what you're saying, but I think that when people say tech changes all the time, they mean that in relation to other industries. Compared to education, real estate, or construction, for example, tech really does move fast. While some technologies have been around for decades and will certainly be used for decades more (javascript, SQL, etc), there's simply much more stuff to learn (or at least be aware of) now than 20 years ago. This stuff includes Typescript, NoSQL databases like Mongo, and the seemingly countless number of testing frameworks. It's key to choose what you learn wisely since there's simply not enough time to learn it all. Like you said, "invest in what doesn't change". I think this can be applied by being wary of pouring hundreds of hours into learning every tech fad that comes along.

Great point. Boring businesses are the way to go. That being said I find that it does take some time to convince people to switch. So if you are going for a boring business you ideally want to find one that has a lot of new players coming in almost daily. Otherwise you are stuck competing against giants that have been there which as an indie is near impossible.

Or did I miss something? Maybe there is a chance you find an industry that was just neglected and everyone accepted something as a defacto and you can change it successfully and convince the already present users to switch.

I still think real estate is the best by far as a builder

I think this works as long as you're not an employee. Employees in tech jobs are constantly forced to learn the latest and greatest shiny tools otherwise face being fired and good luck trying to get a job with basic SQL and Ruby skills. I guess the hidden message here is - be your own boss!

Before I read your article and was just trying to think of my own ideas from the title alone - I thought food, clothes, shelter etc. But then I thought, these things can change. We may all become humanoids in the future and may not need any of those things. I get it's a long way off - if ever, but everything can potentially change. Then I read your article and you gave some great examples, and I was like 'ah, yeah, that's what he means by things that don't change'. Great article👍
