According to the article, a 22-year-old Indonesian sold five years of daily selfies as NFTs and made $22 million. And another influencer, Irene Zhao, with her business partners, tokenized her meme stickers, and the tokens are trading at the floor price of 1.47 Ether with over 2,000 Ether trading volume (>USD6 million).
Blockchain/crypto is giving the power of influencers (and communities) to control their own finances. It is the beginning of more personal brands and influencers owning their own brands. No longer exclusive to celebrities, everyday persons will have the means to profit without using other platforms as the middle person.
They will still use traditional social media and communication tools to connect with the community, at least for the time being, until the decentralized social projects become mainstream.
Like any new tech, the mainstream views NFT as scams, and after a long wait, it has caught up with mainstream attention, and many claim it as "hype." Will NFTs successfully turn legit at some point? Feel free to share your views!
