I'm starting to execute my app/services ideas and wondering if using a dedicated domain, a must right now.
ideally, I'm gonna start a few of those (I work full-time with two little kids), so I don't think I can buy a domain every time, before validating that I'm building useful stuff.
right now I'm working on a simple, web-based meditation app, I started with the most essential stuff and working on getting some traction, preferably before adding the more advanced features (while keeping it simple and useful).
so, a dedicated domain, a must?
I think it's perfectly fine to host it as a subdomain, at least while doing an MVP / PoC.
Often, I think I spend too much time on the "startup" side of things (name, domain, landing page etc...) instead of validation or building the MVP, then worrying about the branding later.
Its depend on how you market your product if you have SEO centered strategy yes a dedicated domain is a must. Today a domain cost 10$ /year , How many idea do you launch per month, for it to represent such a large budget?
It's just that I don't want to get stuck with unused domains, but I guess that's a risk of the job.
I'm trying to be as lean as possible with spending, so I try to plan everything so I won't spend so much, fortunately, I'm a developer, so I got a lot covered.
