So I recently got great advice from the IndieHacker community for my SaaS app https://CoverLetterGPT.xyz -- which I've completely open-sourced (link in the footer)
Not only has open-sourcing my app been good for the community, but it's also gotten it a lot of exposure, criticism, feedback, etc, which I'm extremely grateful for.
I also saw SaaS templates going for $700 dollars, which I find ridiculous. So I was wondering, as a way to give back to the IndieHacker community, would a free OpenAI SaaS template be something you'd want/use? I know there are people selling them on GumRoad, but not sure how in demand they are... 🤔
I would make it to use the PERN stack (Postgres Express React Node), Prisma, Stripe checkout, Send Grid for emails, Cron jobs, etc. If you have any other ideas, include them in the comments! 🙏
Making your app open source was nice and allowed people to see how to work with the ChatGPT API, and creating free template will probably encourage people to play with it even more!
Agreed!
I know a lot of people were also happy to learn about https://wasp-lang.dev and https://chakra-ui.com because of it too.
Sorry, I have really no idea why people are interested in building (and using (and eventually pay for)) an 150-line openai wrapper that doesnt do anything more than generating a prompt based on a form, where the prompt would return the same result in ChatGPT.
What about a general SaaS template?
Yes, that is what I believe in! I expect that SaaS will stay and that it really is possible to build a stable startup / business in it, but as always, money does not come easy. And that is mainly why I do not believe in this type of hypetrain jumping.
A general SaaS template has value for SaaS builders, because it is no longer needed to reinvent everything again!
sounds good. thanks for the input!
