I've been trying to think of a low impact way of validating my idea, and thought that creating a simple marketing site with a "register your interest" field might be a good way to do so. Anyone have any experience with this?
Hi,
Yes, it makes sense.
From my past experience:

It can be, it's not the only way, and bear in mind that 'registering interest' doesn't mean they will become paying customers.

Yes, this works very well.
What I like best about this approach is that it helps you think through and iron out marketing messages. Most people build it first and then try to figure out how to sell last. For most, that's the most difficult part.
Personally, I love to build things, so getting the marketing and sales portion out of the way lets me leave the best part for last. Plus, I get excellent feedback from real potential customers to make the product even better from the start.
In addition to the marketing page, I also send paid traffic to the page via paid search to expedite learnings.
