Is AI art really art? If so, who's not AI-replaceable?

It’s all about human-ai teamwork, not competition

Many people are terrified by AI and I understand the concern. Plus, the media loves to position it as an enemy and monetize the anxious attention.

But AI can give you superpowers when you work with AI, not against it.

Take content creation area or simply the digital writing. At my content studio Growth Supply we have been experimenting with a bunch of AI writing tools over the last years. We also help a few founders who are building AI products, e.g., we participate in their beta versions and give them feedback. But no matter what AI tool we try out, we keep reaching a common conclusion: if you work with AI, not against it, AI gives you super writing powers. AI lacks (and seems it will lack) the imaginative, creative human mind, yes. But it can also help you unlock barriers and get over your writer's block in ways you couldn't have imagined. And when you use it to your advantage and combine its initial legwork with your unbeatable imaginative mind, some of the copies/texts you come up with leave you speechless. Yet, you haven't copied anything (like those AI written BS SEO posts that dominate Google). You have just taken advantage of AI to do the dirty work and it was your beautiful mind that did the work that matters, the work that delivers the impact and makes you stand out.

IMO true art is for the artist, not the viewer. So in that sense, no.

But even aside from that... also no.

I can draw a triangle, and it is not art. But I can also draw a triangle that is art. The difference between the art and the triangle is inspiration, which seems to be a human thing.

Hmm...super interesting when you compare it to the rock museum in Japan. In that example, the weather carves the rocks into faces unintentionally, the only reason why they're considered to be art is that they're interpreted as art by people, not because they're inherently art. But I guess that applies to art created by people too...to some people, a green circle on a white canvas is art, to others, it's not - so, I guess it's the same with art created by AI. Its value as "art" will depend on how it's interpreted...

To find a human who can understand your thoughts and bring them to life is hard. Not all humans are equally talented, which requires you to spend hours and money to find the right talent. This is where I see AI to be very useful. I usually get something done with AI and then take it to a human saying, "Hey, this is pretty much how I would like it", which is easier.

For example, whenever we design a landing page, I have something in my mind like "I want something that is clean, modern, minimalistic, bold, with gradients, ... etc", I then use AI to build a basic design and then take it to my designer. This saves both of us a ton of time spent on Dribbble and Behance. I get to tell him exactly what I want with references and he's happy cause there's less rework.

Finding the right set of keywords and styles is learning (which is why we built PixelGen) but that's a challenge for another day.

I see AI and humans working together to build things faster, even with art.

Anything that requires a person to create or manage something (coding, art, driving, accounting, building, etc) will be replaced by AI. What AI will never be able to replace will be human-to-human interactions (caregivers, teachers, coaches, trainers, etc).
