Is anyone here older than the typical indie hacker?

First, let me say that I don't know how old the "average" indie hacker is.

I'm wondering ... have you succeeded at something either later in life or later in life than the average person at what you did/accomplished?

If so, I'd love to ask you a few questions - both for my own encouragement and for the encouragement of others who feel like they are running out of time.

Thanks for considering!

    I'm 41.

    Define success. :)

One of my businesses has done well (but not so well in the current climate, hopefully it will pul through).

I'm currently leading the community here, which is the same and very different in various ways.

According to a Harvard Business Review study, the average age of successful startup founders is 45 for all industries, 40 for software. Wharton study also suggests the average age is in the 40's.

    Interesting quotes:

"In part, the dominance of middle-aged founders in starting the highest-growth companies reflects the propensity of middle-aged people to start ventures. Middle-aged people take many more bites at the apple."

"Although there are many other factors that may explain the age advantage in entrepreneurship, we found that work experience plays a critical role."

If that isn't encouragement, I don't know what is 😉

    By the way, I'm 40.

I am 53, started my current startup when I was 50! (Had several before that). I am guessing that I am on the older side of most of the IH crowd! 😅

I'm 39. Been around the block for the last decade. All my success came after 35. Currently own two startups, work full time for another, and I live in an RV roaming the US. Took years to get here.

I'm 42! I didn't even know what a startup was until I was 38, and had never heard the term "indie hacker" until I was 41. AND I also started out with the idea of self-funding, transitioning to a profit-funded business, before I learned about the investment vs. bootstrapping pathway.

So I can say that I had a successful career, in three different roles / industries before I arrived here, and I can see that manifest in the type of problem I'm working on and my approach to it. Both in a good and bad way.

I'm open to chat. [email protected]
