Is anyone working on multiple projects?

Confucius once said at a Startup conference somewhere - “The man who chases two rabbits, catches neither.”

I am torn. I always understand the absolute wisdom of focus. But I also have the skill to project-box and this was one of my greatest strengths when I worked as a project manager in the nasty 9-5 corporate world.

Two years ago I left the corporate world and reached my goal at 40 to go alone. I only earn a quarter of what I did then but the journey has been worth it. I also quit on my 40th!

I always had sooooo many ideas but knew that I would first need a base income from a project before allowing my creative eye to wander. I set aside my ideas and worked on them at the weekend but more in a fun researchy way. It was like having affair but my main gig never found out! It also allowed me to exercise that idea muscle that I know many hackers have.

So, I committed to getting my base project up (sideways.team) and consistently earning me what I needed to live comfortably on (I have a family).

I am now at that stage and so I am now looking to invest 30% of my week into new projects. I want to diversify, not only for strategic reasons but also for fun!

So my approach via project-boxing will safely keep me in the zone, help with context switching and prevent me from having idea distractions.

In June, I am working on a small project (SEO-based with a product to sell) that won't really pay any dividends (if any!) until at least 12-18 months. But I get to learn keyword research, discover lots of interesting niches and add something new to my personal empire.

I am also going to launch publicly a niche newsletter that will help people increase sales through better promo opportunities. Excited for this one! I am even close to closing an advertiser ahead of launch and with 0 subs! Whaaaatttt!

I am also working on a support as a service idea launching in July... but let's not get ahead of myself.

So tell me, how many serious/active projects are you working on, I mean at least 4 hours per week.

PS I am new here but have been a long time lurker. It's great to finally get stuck into this community. I don't tweet much but will at least share my income results against my projects each month as of July.
