Hi Everyone,
Has anyone participated in the AppSumo Select program? Its sales team pitched me on this program, but they charge 80% on any revenue sold on AppSumo. Has anyone negotiated this percentage of revenue sharing? Is this program worth it?
Any feedback is apprecaited!
70%*
If you can get accepted then it can be worth it especially if your product is low-cost to run and people really need it. it'll help you get some revenue to validate the product and work on making it better.
I had a call with them 2 days ago. They told me they charge 80%. I guess they have increased the percentage again?
80%!!! that is insane! even 70% was crazy but 80%? and most of the deals are 49$ so you'll be left with 9.8$! no thanks!
you better make the lifetime deal on your own and promote it or use another platform like dealify
How much dealify charges?
When you work with a service like Appsumo, do they make you sign an exclusive deal or can you work with them and any other deal site? Just curious.

Hi Eric,
Did you launch on app sumo in the end? If so might share your experience?
No. I decided to work with PitchGround instead. We will be launching very soon.
Good luck 🤞
I just had talk with app sumo select and I'm wondering if it worth it 😅
Hey there 👋,
Because of my years of experience and constant contact with founders/developers who have launched AppSumo Select, I have a good understanding of what's happening.
It is not uncommon for them to admit that they regret joining AppSumo Select because, in the end, most of them feel that it has not been not a fair deal (and we were talking about the previous AppSumo commission of 70%... ).
Launching on AppSumo might have some advantages, but they have changed considerably over the past year. Even if we don't look at the decompensated profit that both parts make, they have 724 ACTIVE listed deals on their platform currently. Imagine it! Would you say they are still able to focus on that "select" group of developers/founders and their SaaS as they once did?
PS: If you are a SaaS founder or developer looking to launch a lifetime deal for your product, I could help. At SaasZilla, we believe in close partnerships with developers like you rather than massive listings because we want to give your SaaS/product the attention it deserves. 80% is a lot. Yes, you will get a lot of stardom for a while but think if it's worth.
You must keep in mind that if you can accommodate huge number of customer at once, support them actively throughout the campaign and then lifelong commitment.
If you looking to raise funds for further development, then it's not recommended. As said earlier, if you are looking to market your product to a huge crowd with a contingency plan for your MRR, then go ahead.
They must have some kickass sales people.
They are super pushy.
You can do a deal for basic and try to convert to premium for MRR.
I have a marketplace deal that I like quite a lot (for a course) , and have considered doing a Select deal (for a SaaS) I would absolutely do a select deal with AppSumo if I could easily handle another 1,000 customers and had a nice series of conversion touchpoints already in place.
If you sell 1,000 of a $29 deal, yeah you keep $5,800. and had essentially spent $23,200 for marketing your app without actually paying for it. You could do that or spend $260 a day for 90 days to potentially make less than 1,000 sales? Add a 0 if you expect to sell 10,000 codes instead of 1,000.
And they recommended to me to go marketplace first, and then select. So that you can get the top revenue for some sales, and get early reviews from your own list who might want to convert to LTD for a higher price than monthly.
I have seen others mention that you should price a LTD higher than what your current LTV is.
AppSumo sales team is also pushing to accept their pricing proposal, which is 25% of my annul plan for a life time deal.
Your price is your price. They can only suggest what they see on their side. I went early on with their suggestions and was happily rewarded. Only this year (2021) did I actually raise my prices and it's been wonderful as well.
Hi All,
Anyone would like to share experience about appsumo.
Special what will your product get benefits if you do marketing with appsumo. ?
Thanks in advance.

If you start on the self-served main marketplace, how do you get visibility if it's a crowded category? Do they have a system where all new products always get listed for X number of days as a featured or new item or something? I've found products with no sales that look like they've never gotten any visibility yet but they might also just have a crappy product.
They probably wouldn't want to give every submission front page visibility in case the product is crap or is a scam or something.....but if this is the case, then how do all the new products/companies get visibility from the self-service main marketplace?

Agree. It is not just percentage. They also push on pricing...I proposed 50% of my annual plan price for a life time deal. But they insist to do 25% of my annual plan price. I don't know how other people can accept this.

70% is crazy..
I was told by their sales team, the percentage is now 80%. They make a ton of money by selling other people's software.
They don't even have to pay for infrastructure cost of the app. And developer will be left with 100s of support tickets, unusual hosting costs and much more.
Ya for real. Apple got hated on for taking 30% in their app store... 80% is way worse. I don't even know how you make your business profitable with that much being taken out.
I think if you post yourself without being in the Select program, you get to keep 70% though so maybe that is the route to go.
