Is authentication overkill?

Hi everyone!

I've been hacking away on a website that aggregates and tracks prices for whisky here in the UK.

I've been looking at adding reviews to the site, but I'm worried about spam bots. From what I've heard, they tend to find any text field on the web. To combat this I've been thinking of requiring authentication, however, it's quite involved making a whole auth flow and I'm not sure it would be the greatest user experience. Does anyone have any other ideas, suggestions or experience with how to keep user-submitted content "clean"?
