Is building Multi-Platform Apps worth it?

Mobile vs. Web App

Background: I launched my Flashcards Maker KardsAI at the beginning of this year after roughly 6 months of building it. Its built with Flutter and was launched from the beginning on iOS and Android. A few months ago I added Web Support with a Stripe integration.
The most painful part was the revenueCat / Stripe integration since all had to be built from 0 with webhooks and little documentation how to adapt it in the whole picture. So if anyone should find this and need advice on it in the future, reach out.

In any case, now after 2 months of fully supporting all 3 platforms I wanted to review whether it was worth the effort and ongoing support needed to built and test for 3 platforms.

Revenue Comparison

Lets compare revenues from 1.7-31.8 for these 3:

  1. Apple: $1870
  2. Android: $762
  3. Web: $300

Conclusion - Should you built for both?

At first glance, you can see that Web clearly underperformed. The total development time to adapt from mobile to Web was 50 hours. But one main differentiator is still, that Web does not offer LifeTime Package yet, which I expect to be more popular as on mobile. Moreover a key advantage of having Web support is the fast development and deployment time. If you want to test new features, paywalls or app behaviour, you can deploy and test on Web immediately before going through the hassle of getting everything in both stores approved.

Thats why I would say - it was worth it and if you are developing with Flutter, keep it in mind from the start.
