Is Buying Used/Aged Domains Worth it?

Has anyone had any success with buying used/aged domains for their backlinks?

I would assume this isn't a good idea for domains unrelated to your business. But if you can find something available that's a good fit to your business, it seems like a simple win to purchase it and set up a 301 to your related business and consider it a cost for some good backlinks.

I looked into it a bit myself and it seems like the challenge is to vet the backlink profile of these domains since most have pretty poor profiles even when they're relevant. Also, I heard that backlinks can expire if the domain is inactive for too long.

Any success stories with this method or is it just tantalizing hype?

Yes, this thing also worked. 2.5 years ago, we tested this thing, but unfortunately, I forgot the URL of the domain because we were dealing with many domains. However, you need to check every aspect of the domain, such as whether the domain has good backlinks or just one good backlink and 100 poor backlinks, as it will not be a good option. We used this site, https://www.expireddomains.net/, for finding expired domains. After checking the availability, we checked the DA, DR, backlink history, redirect history, and also checked the Wayback Machine history before purchasing it. We used these domains for 301 redirect and also for site. But now not sure these things works or not!

In the long run imo used domains wont matter much

Do you think Google will devalue their links somehow?

Instead of finding dead domains, that might have backlinks that expired, consider something like DropCatch.com which you can get expiring domains.

Find the domain, get a backorder on it via a registrar, and then grab it as it's available. then you can more quickly salvage the backlinks, if any.

I made a video showing how I find domains with the word "sheet" in them for potential business ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqDZPbcraDU
