Is Facebook an appropriate platform for a SaaS in its beta phase?
Hello, everyone!
As I'm trying to allocate some time for promotional activities for my latest project I was starting to wonder how important is Facebook for a very "young" project.
I think I'm pretty certain that Twitter will have to be the main social media platform for getting new users and engaging larger audiences. Also, as the project I'm working on is B2B, I'm thinking about starting to be active on LinkedIn, as well.
Now, I am pretty uncertain about Facebook - it can take some serious effort and I'm not sure how easy it is to find people enthusiastic enough to try out new products.
So, I would like to hear some advice and experiences from the people on IndieHackers.
Are you utilizing Facebook, and if so, when did you start doing it (in relation to where your project was at that time)? What are the results you have seen and how do you set goals for it?
I'd go for SEO, Reddit, LinkedIn for b2b in this space. But maybe you have niche FB groups in mind to target? That could work.
Yeah, SEO is definitely something we're focusing on parallel to social media. I'm trying to be active on Reddit as much as I can, but I'm kind of threading carefully there, because of the moderation policies.
As for the FB groups, they are something I've had in mind, but it seems that it's difficult to promote anything in a group that's even remotely popular (similar to Reddit). And I do not know how much benefit would sole activity on my page (in terms of publishing posts) bring.

Howitzer may be a way around moderation on reddit - direct messaging.
I've had success posting to subreddits. You have to understand what type of content works well (i.e. gets upvotes / comments) vs content that people see as too promotional or low value. And don't be put off by moderation on Reddit. Some subs are more lenient than others where you can get banned for very little.

Yeah I remember because I think I suggested you create a bot/user-agent directory as a kind of product-led SEO strategy. I still think that's a good idea :)
