Is getting a job a good way to find problems to solve?

So, I was thinking of doing Linux sysadmin work and working on a startup part time on the side. Do Linux sysadmins count as a market to sell to? Anyone else have experience talking with specific kinds of employees to discover problems using "The Mom Test"?

I think it might work if you would go work for a large organization / corporate. A startup might be too small to find relevant problems / co-workers?

If talking to your co-workers or to employees at the water cooler, look for things people complain about. These are usually problems worth solving because they pro-actively are voicing their negativity.

Other questions I regularly ask during interviews are:

    • What is your biggest weekly/monthly struggle
    • What takes too much time?
    • What do you need help with most
