Is it bad to have a dash in my domain name?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a few domain names for my next few side projects. At the moment I have most of my side projects just under folder names on my personal site as they are mostly just-for-fun projects.

I'm thinking of starting to launch slightly more 'real' side projects now so a TLD seems more legit. But as always nice and short names are taken and I'm wondering if adding a dash in the domain is bad for some any reason? Be it technical, SEO or just plain human perception? I don't notice many sites with dashes in them although they are legit domain names so I'm wondering why? 🤷🏻‍♀️
