Every now and then, I deviate as i go along the developement due to new ideas popping up every day.
Is it a common thing? If so how are you able to overcome this problem?
Thanks
That is definitely a common problem. The way I deal with it now is to create a new project for the idea in my project management program and then in some cases allowing myself 2 days to build a beginning prototype : that will fast show lots of annoying details that needs to be solved and hence help me cool down.
The purpose of creating a project in a project management system is so that I am not afraid of forgetting it and I can easily add to the idea then inspiration comes and then go back to my main project.
I gotta try that cool down technique! I often tend to get overly excited with a new idea and get fixated way too easily :)
I have a mindmap where I write every idea I have. Then, I let it sit there till I see other ideas which are more or less related to the first one. I link everything and see my idea growing with multiple sub-ideas.
This allow me not to forget ideas, let me time to think and grow my ideas to then create something or discarding the whole "idea tree".
Why a mindmap? Simply because whatever the number of branches there is, it stays very visual for me to have a very quick overview in no time.
I wrote an article where I speak about that (and how to generate ideas in general) if somebody is interested:

Same here. I usually create something to keep track of it, and add features as I flush the idea out.
