Is it just me, or is IH swarmed with AI written articles lately?
Ever since I took on the task of finding high quality articles for my newsletter that aren't just listicles or AI written piles, I've been seeing AI articles everywhere.
Lately IH seems to be the infected by these articles as well. Prime example: yesterday I saw this piece hit the frontpage and I'm just kinda baffled by how bad and generic it is.
In case you don't know, you can spot AI written articles a combination of: the tone (it's monotonous), the wording and phrasing, the lack of examples/personal anecdotes, and the overall genericness of a post.
I don't hate LLMs. I really appreciate its existence for me as a solo founder. I think most of us do.
LLMs helps me write micro tools for myself. It's my first choice of tech support now when I need to fix anything. It replaced google translation for me too when I don't know some words, or how to phrase things (I'm not a native speaker). And I do ask it first when I want to learn about a new topic.
Can we agree though that there's no place for articles written by LLMs in here? I think it takes away from the real stories written by real founders in IH, and it makes me stop wanting to browse the new post section. Is there any solution? Maybe (gasp) a micro tool that mark articles as high chance of written by AI?
Yup, it's a spammers paradise.
The account that wrote the article you linked is full of them. He has to be using such a basic prompt because each post of his has the exact same cookie-cutter AI framework. Introductions that say things like "in this article we" or "the good news is" followed by 2-3 sections that don't reference each other in any way. Then there's typically a Conclusion that'll include "by following these steps" or ends on some cheezy phrase.
Totally useless.
It's weird because he seems to be the cofounder of some of the most popular Wordpress stuff (which I've used before). You would think someone with that much credibility would be better than this.
The style you described is most likely just how AI write articles in general. And then there's the irrelevant links to their products sprinkle all over the place as the cherry on top.
And yes it's useless, as most AI written content are, but especially these so called "articles", because its length is padded for SEO, so you waste even more time.
If I want the AI's opinion on things, I would have just asked it myself (I usually do that). It's a good first step, but that's about as useful as it can be.
What I don't get is how that piece get to 1st page of IH? Is it some kind of favoritism to the account?
If you mean AI written, Human published, SEO targeted then yes it's the same thing everywhere not just on PH. Except for some company and personal blogs most platforms face the same thing.
Yeah it's pretty much everywhere now. When I was new here I used to think IH is better moderated/self-moderated, but recently kinda feels like the AI-ification a bit too much for me.
I read about this theory called the paradox of abundance and it really resonated with me. Basically the average quality of information is getting worse, but the best stuff is getting better. AI written articles are amplifying the average stuff ten folds though, which I guess compelled me to take on this challenge of finding the best stuff on the internet to put on my newsletter 🤣
I think everything and everywhere is getting like this anyways...at some point it will go back to normal hopefully.
Unfortunately I don't think it will ever "go back to normal" again, without intervention. The Pandora's box that is chatgpt is opened. People will probably spam the internet with LLM content forever now, with more and more sophistication.
At least for now it's bad enough in general writing that we can probably detect them if we're "content saavy" enough 🤷 (I just made up that term).
