Is it normal to have Upwork developers turning down offers to fix/add features to your app?
I am learning to code and building the MVP by myself. Often I find myself getting stuck when trying to add a certain feature and turn to Upwork to find a developer to help me get over the hurdle but I am not having much luck. Most developers on Upwork don't seem very interested and I am not sure if it is the job itself or something else.
Hello brother. I think it's hard to answer, as not getting a developer can depend on a few factors. As a developer, when looking at a job offer like this, some of the things I would probably check:
Do you communicate clearly what's the specific feature you'd like to add? What's the bug you'd like to fix?
Are you offering good payment?
Also relevant:
What is your tech stack - perhaps you're using something esoteric?
Generally speaking, entering into an existing codebase can be somewhat harder than creating something from scratch.
Maybe if you post your job offer text here, we can see if something there raises a red flag.
Can't speak statistically, but I've seen such jobs getting fulfilled through Upwork, so I don't think there should be a fundamental problem.
My guess is something like rate not high enough, project not big enough. Devs want to fill their weeks with large chunks of work, not a little here or there. I had one complain about 25/hrs a week. It's too much to take on another large project, but not enough to fill up the week.
