Is it safe to use your real name?

A real name allows you to build more of a personal brand / reputation. So for that reason I'd go with it. I've received no threats / harassment myself.

I’ve always used my real name, but that’s also because I’ve published a few books which (obviously) were under my real name. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to harass me - I’m a nerd building websites.

If you're not comfortable revealing your full name, use a nickname or a shortened version of it. Hiding your name may look as though you're hiding something.

If Elon Musk can use his real name, then there is no reason unknown people like me couldn't.

Use your real name as it builds a closer brand than ever. About Threats, people who are going to do so, are either way going to find a way. Don't stress. Most of them won't be able to have a decent talk once they are upfront to you irl, without stammering.

What's the difference between threatening messages or harassment to your real name or not?
I just can't see any harm the people can do if they know your name.
For sure, you'd better not to show off your passport number, address, social security number, credit card etc.
But name? My name is unique and if you google it you'll find me, but still I don't understand what the harm could be done.
