Is it too late to make AI apps?

I was thinking of making yet another frontend for ChatGPT and Claude, but I'm not sure if it's worth making since the market seems saturated. Same with AI profile creators, it feels like the low hanging fruit has been picked for these sorts of apps.

I think we need to be more imaginative. The gpt has much more potential than another chatting frontend.

  2. 3

Possibly, but it's not too late to repurpose AI.

According to forbes, 60% of companies will look towards AI solution in the near future.

That's where i believe will be the most lucrative business opportunities because it's not necessarily about "cutting edge" technology, but about trust and reliability

If you can put together a few AIs to create your own "super ai", you can probably make an amazing service for businesses. People are making AI for businesses lowkey and i feel it's like a no brainer

Im running a site currently that audits AIs so businesses know who to trust when incorporating more ai tech in their business. Maybe you can find some inspiration here: https://findaitools.co/

Doing a product launch soon so i'd appreciate feedback (sorry for the shameless plug 😅)

  3. 3

No not at all, this is only the beginning!

    1. 1

Where's the best place to stay in-the-know on apis and tools one can use for AI?

  4. 3

The story is just beginning. It's too late to make another ChatGPT wrapper without any added value. If you plan to use AI to improve a product that would work without it, then by all means do it!

  5. 2

I think there are still a lot of unexplored angles, you just have to combine different concepts.

E.g. we created a coding agent for React & Node.js apps and had over 4,000 projects created in a few days: https://magic-app-generator.wasp-lang.dev/

    1. 2

Seen your ProductHunt launch! Nicely done!

  6. 2

If you only aim to create a ChatGPT shell application, then it may seem unnecessary, but if you aspire to use it as a foundation for something else, then it is never too late to begin.

  7. 1

I was worried about the same thing. Maybe we could learn something by studying what happened after web3 hit its peak? I think like a lot of people are saying in the comments we have to make AI that does specific tasks that we understand well.

  8. 1

I think the advancement in AI has just started, giving opportunity to build great products to create value

  9. 1

It's definitely not too late, although I'm also feeling the FOMO. I've been holding off on building my app idea as I'm not sure how to deal with offering a free trial for a subscription based app without getting wrecked by the cost of GPT-4.

  10. 1

I think it's the same for any new Trend, Common sense applications are already crowded but there is room for soooo many use cases: AI for verticals, AI enabled SaaS (and not only another chatbot), etc etc

  11. 1

As the owner of Logomakerr.ai, I understand your concerns about the saturated AI market. However, it's not too late to create AI apps that bring unique value. Despite the competition, there is still room for innovation and differentiation. At Logomakerr.ai, we recognized this opportunity and built a platform that simplifies logo design with AI. We faced the challenges head-on by focusing on delivering a user-friendly experience and exceptional value to our customers. By conducting thorough market research and constantly iterating, we found our niche and carved out a space in the market.

It's crucial to approach AI app development with a fresh perspective and identify unmet needs or gaps in the market. You can create a successful AI app by analyzing the competition, gathering feedback, and constantly refining your offering. The key is to stay agile, listen to your users, and continuously innovate. With the right strategy and a commitment to providing unique value, there is always time to make your mark in the AI industry.

  12. 1

As long as it brings value , solve the problem area , tough fight with competitor in price segment then a BIG NOOOOOOO!

Not only Direct AI, You can build any project just touch AI. It also Booom!

  13. 1

As long as it brings value then no.

  14. 1

Just getting started. There are lots of apps that are just wrappers around an AI that are making good $$$ for popular use cases, but don't let that discourage you. There are still plenty of uses for AI that haven't been tapped yet.

If an AI use case is making tons of $$$ that means the idea is validated and there's room for competition. Another app might have first mover advantage, but you can have second mover advantage. Then it comes down to how good your marketing is, competition on price, features, etc.

  15. 1

The journey has just begun, and there's no turning back now! It's never too late to enhance a ChatGPT wrapper with added value. If leveraging AI can elevate a product that already functions well, go for it with all your might! Innovation knows no bounds.

  16. 1

Most people haven't used ChatGPT before. It's not too late as long as your target user is broader than the early adopter community.

  17. 1

The journey has just begun! Creating yet another ChatGPT wrapper without added value might be futile, but enhancing an existing product using AI can lead to groundbreaking innovations. Embrace the potential and let progress pave the way!

  18. 1

As long as you're not making another GPT wrapper, I think you're good to go. A pretty good metric I found myself is you should be able to sell your product even without telling that it's backed by AI. Anyway, worst case, you'll learn something new and have one more project under your portfolio. Don't stop building :)

PS: I launched "Muster AI" a few days back on chrome web store.

  19. 1

No definitely it's not too late

  20. 1

I think, we're just getting started. A lot of the AI apps you find on Product Hunt are nice to look at and sound like good ideas, but when you use them, you realise not much is going on.

Just genuinely approach your 'ideal' customer (or people you want to work with) without a solution in mind. And just ask about their problems.

  21. 1

The term first come first serve drink clean water fits in this case.... in my opinion we are still in the window of time to develop applications based on AI. Try to look with other eyes, and mainly try to solve real problems for real situations.

  22. 1

    That's not the right mindset.

It might seem like the market is already crowded with similar apps, but I would say you should not let that stop you.

There's always room for fresh ideas and unique approaches, as long as you add your personal touch.

There is probably still tons of untapped opportunities.

  23. 1

Absolutely not. You can see how new solutions emerge every day and there are new markets open up. Take MindOS (https://mindos.com/#/marketplace) for example (I'm not related to them) - it's a new abstraction layer on top of simple GPT wrappers. AI can be used in so many areas (infinite maybe?), it's impossible to exhaust the use cases anytime soon. It's just the simple surface-level solutions that have already been implemented.

  24. 1

Yeah, sure the market is competitive. But given a beneficial USP, I am sure many ideas should still be executed and not thought twice about!

  25. 1

There are a few reasons why it is not too late to make AI apps. First, the tools and resources available to developers have become much more accessible in recent years. There are now a number of open-source AI libraries and frameworks that can be used to build AI applications without having to have a deep understanding of machine learning.

  26. 1

Adding just a layer to ChatgGPT won't work. But adding ChatGPT as a layer to the product will work for sure.
So yes its gone but its also not gone depending upon the product you are going to build or the approach you will take

  27. 1

I think it's too late. None of them seem to be making money, except OpenAI.

  28. 1

    Either way, you'll learn something!

  29. 1

No its time to grow up with some healthier tip to make AI tools

  30. 1

Your sentiment is understandable. However, as someone who has grappled with similar thoughts while developing a tool, my take is that the market saturation often indicates demand and interest in a particular domain. The key is finding your unique value proposition - what can you offer that others don't?

For instance, with our app, PrintJourney (https://printjourney.ai), we focused on using AI to streamline and automate the design and SEO management processes for print on demand business owners, which was something not readily available elsewhere.

So, rather than considering the low hanging fruits already picked, you might look for ways to cultivate and harvest higher hanging fruits. How can you elevate what's already there? Can you take a fresh perspective or find a niche that hasn't been addressed yet? Remember, innovation often comes from refining and improving the existing, not just creating the new.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to pursue!

  31. 1

I think most important now is making connection with real word. let users do not feel the existence of ai

  32. 1

In my personal opinion, the term "AI" already feels saturated, but if you can create something unique and cool, go for it!

  33. 1

I think you have to provide much more value than just wrapping an already existing (and free!) product. I also think that it's much harder to get paying customers, and that if you do decide to make a little more feature-rich version of an AI chat, your (for now) new features are going to get added to the big players' apps in the very near future. Although, I think if you do decide to make yet another AI product, you'd need to provide tremendous value and go all in on the product. Just my two cents :)

  34. 1

also interested in this. want to start executing on ideas again but wondering if it worth exploring chatgpt still

  35. 1

I think it depends mainly on the added value of the frontend. If it is something generic that already exists, there is little purpose. However, if it fits a niche or has exciting features there are still some opportunities. It is also possible to fine-tune the model to have an advantage over the existing ones.

  36. 1

Nope! BUT don't make your value be some prompt. Make the value be the application of the prompt.

  37. 1

I wouldn't let that sway you once you find your niche. Best of luck!

  38. 1

Not at all. the most important thing is being sharp.

honestly, it's really hard for me.

  39. 1

No, there are too many ideas that you can create and people love to try.

  40. 1

I think there is too much focus on how something works vs. what it can do (the benefit). On that basis there is plenty of scope for an AI tool as long as it does something beneficial. Tech types and young people are naturally gravitating and embracing AI. But I think there is a large market of 'laggards' who would find Ai 'magical' but also a headache (or even scary) to think about. Potentially this market has been ignored and there is the gap.

  41. 1

I don't think so, I bet the most promising ai apps will launch in the coming decade. Remember that a lot of great internet startups happened after the dot-co (IH won't let me type m!) bubble burst. You're still terribly early :)

  42. 1

It's never too late to create a quality AI product that does something unique.

  43. 1

Quality products always yield fruitful results. It's not too late to focus on providing high-quality AI apps. The field is constantly evolving and offering new opportunities in a variety of sectors.

  44. 1

Yeah, but ask yourself , is it gonna provide value?

  45. 1

AI app development is still relevant and promising. The field is evolving rapidly with opportunities in healthcare, finance, transportation, and more. There's untapped potential for innovation and growth.

  46. 1

I'd say it's not too late. The challenge is how do you stand out against everyone else in the market.

  47. 1

No, it is definitely not too late to make AI apps. In fact, the field of AI is still rapidly evolving and there are numerous opportunities for developing innovative applications. AI has already made significant advancements in various industries, such as healthcare, finance, transportation, and customer service, but there is still a vast potential for further growth and exploration.

  48. 1

AIGC is only in its early stages, and there is still a lot of application space, and it can be widely used in many industries. There is an old saying that the best time to plant trees is 10 years ago, followed by now. Come on.

  49. 1

People are making new CRMs every year that seem to succeed. The low hanging fruits may be gone, but there will always be opportunity in any market to improve on the current products
