Is it worth having your own blog?

Hey everyone,

In your opinion and experiences, do you think it's still worth to have a small blog of your company (like ours ) , or is it better to write native posts on Medium, IH or larger blogs of an industry?

It's a good, long-term strategy to run your own blog on a domain name that you control. One of the main benefits is that it allows you to rank in search engines and bring free organic traffic in months and years to come.

Medium, IH and other blogs can be used to syndicate your content in order to build brand awareness, get traffic and links to your main blog. All which will help you rank better in the long run.

Hosting your main blog on one of these third-party platforms is not the best option due to the lack of control and you being reliant on these platforms that may change or even cease to exist.

One recent change is Medium no long allowing you to run it on your custom domain. Or them putting lots of large banners and annoying calls-to-action on top of your content.

This is great advice! Just adding to this, if you use Medium...you'll never get the email addresses of people who sign up. That means you can't get in touch with these potential customers directly!

Producing content is still a terrific way of driving traffic. To get any value out of the effort though you should know the basics of keyword research and SEO content writing, otherwise you'll just be producing stuff kinda aimlessly.

    Hello Gabriel,

Content is in general a contribution to your brand. So it's preferably to share content on the blog and on the such media sharks as Medium, IndieHackers, Behance, and other sources which can help your company show itself in the light of information you share. And as for the topics, I'd rather choose something social and viral, like American dream (the point in it is explained by Karen Foster in https://jetwriters.com/american-dream-essay/ article) or pop culture phenomena (it's in case your blog is not directly connected with your brand idea) something like Larry Muler suggests in Forbes source https://www.forbes.com/sites/larrymyler/2015/04/13/riding-the-waves-of-pop-culture-phenomena/#493c58933673 or you may choose the topic that actually is related to your company (and that would be much better).

    All the best,
    Terry Lewis

You need both. Your blog has to convert prospects to customers. Other sites can bring in traffic to your blog.
