Is it worth thinking about growth before you have product-market fit?

I've seen good arguments both ways. Interested to hear what indie hackers think.

Have you tried one way or the other? How did it work for you?

    Yes and no...

No, in the sense that it's a waste of time to actively plan/work on growth before you have product market fit.

Before you have PM fit, you don't know enough about your audience, their goals, and their objections to be able to put anything impactful together on the growth side. Speaking bluntly, anything you do there will be a complete waste of time.

Yes, in the sense that the process you need to go through/info you need to find out to get PM fit is the same as for being able to do growth well.

So, if you do PM fit right, it'll be obvious to you how to approach growth as well.

If you define product/market fit as the inflection point from slow growth to high growth rate, then obviously growth is everything. If you are talking about sustained growth instead of a short burst, then it is different.
