Is it worthwhile to buy Twitter followers?
Actually, I'm against buying Twitter followers because the people you buy are most likely some fake accounts or people that don't care about your content. However, I'm thinking if it is still might worth it because a higher number of followers make your account just more relevant (or at least it looks like it's more relevant).
Any opinions / experiences on this topic?

Don't do it! I agree ferriccio--having 1k followers with no post engagement is a red flag. I recommend maybe investing in Twitter ads to attract followers, sharing and generating high-quality content (esp. videos), following and interacting with influencers (and their followers) in your niche, and using 2-3 relevant hashtags in every tweet to improve reach.
Hell no! It's just a vanity metric. Focus on building a real audience instead.
not worth it. 1k followers and zero post engagement sucks.
the automation stuff is also not that smart. personally to grow my profile I just try to get as many impressions as possible
I never did that, and I don't think it's a good idea.
But it can help you to get real followers via Social proof effect (theoretically)
My hypothese is that if people see that you have 1K followers they will more likely follow you rather that when you have 10 followers.
But it's just a trick. I suggest you to write a good content and promote it as a way to get more followers.

Ya...but due to their ranking algorithms you might be able to show your content to potential real followers, or not?
Now that all this is highlighted by NYTimes, twitter shall have come up with strict guidelines, change in ranking algo, etc.
