Is knowing UX/UI the new standard for designers?

As with all things design... "it depends."

In short, yes. Every designer has and always will be expected to be empathetic to whom they are designing for.

With that being said, do all designers need to have performed user experience research, conducted user interviews, or be able to craft trendy visual details in their interfaces? Absolutely not. But they should be able to ask the right questions to understand the 'why' for the task enough to create something that can be engaged with; and mastery over their tools (Figma, Adobe, etc) to be able to create and export the needed visual design for the task.

In truth, your question is a bit vague as UI/UX is a bit of a blanket term (and by extension, job role). And I'd be happy to add more to this if you could clarify what you mean.
