Is "missed leads in the inbox" a real small-business AI wedge?

I keep narrowing the AI employee idea down to one boring workflow:

missed leads and follow-ups in email.

Not an agent that runs the business.

Not an AI that sends customer replies on autopilot.

Just a daily review list for the owner:

  • quote requests with no next step
  • warm leads that replied once and got buried
  • customers waiting for an update
  • follow-ups the owner meant to send later
  • threads where one missing detail is blocking the reply

The AI job is narrow:

Find the threads.

Summarize the last real state.

Draft the next reply.

Flag risky or missing context.

Wait for the owner before anything goes out.

That feels much easier to trust than "give an agent your inbox and let it handle customer comms."

The more I look at small service businesses, the more I think the first useful AI employee is not the most autonomous one.

It is the one that makes invisible follow-up work visible every morning.

I built the FredBuilds Inbox AI Employee Kit around that workflow:

Curious how other founders think about this:

Is "missed leads in the inbox" a strong wedge, or is there a more painful small-business workflow you would start with first?
