Is my launch video 'sexy'? (it's only 26 seconds)

Howdy team,

I'm looking at doing a Product Hunt launch soon and have been putting together some marketing collateral, including our launch video.

Making videos isn't my forté, so please rip it to shreds / give any advice.

My main question is: does the video make you want to read more about the product?

Thanks in advance!

It took 20sec for me to understand what you're selling. Most people won't see it until the end.

How about delivering your proposition value in the first 5 seconds "3 book summaries per day so you get the value without the hassle", then go on to show examples of dope books?

Also you mention a mammoth but never show one. I wish there were one cool mammoth with reading glasses with a book in his hand.

Last word of advice: Don't spend 3 weeks redoing the video. Make it super basic, quick, the PH crowd as seen it all.

    My 2 cents :)

I took your advice into consideration and ended up launching the product (and video) today! Would love to know what you think? https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-chatty-mammoth

Just saw your message; The mammoth has hair and glasses hahaha! Love it!!
I think it's better indeed, the value proposition comes much faster, at least we know what you're talking about. Congrats on the 500 upvotes on PH, great score. I gave you one too :)

Oh and just noticed your username. Clever ;)

You legend, thank you! Noted - 20 seconds too long to get the point across. And we'll definitely include our Mammoth logo, good idea! (you can see it here - it has the glasses!)

Catchy music ! The phrase "We do the hard work for you" feels off to me and the value proposition is late as pointed out by others but also sudden. Why would I want a book summary? Is a book summary worth it ?

How about an enticing phrase saying that most books can be boiled down to a few ideas and you will be delivering those?

Best of luck with your launch!

We removed the 'we do the hard work for you' phrase! Ended up launching today - would appreciate any feedback :) https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-chatty-mammoth

Hmmm...perhaps "we do the hard work for you" is used a bit too frequently nowadays. Will give some thought to how to revise it! Love the other tips as well, thank you! I'm going to be making all of these changes in my second draft.

First impression, I think it uses way too much stock footage. You're selling this product to the PH crowd, even though it's 26 seconds I doubt people will watch it till the end.

Now, I've had a look at your product and those little clips you produce on Twitter do a much better job at saying what your product does. They also look quite polished as well.

This is what I'm referring to: https://twitter.com/ChattyMammoth/status/1456478882895388673?s=20

Personally, I'd structure the video by first talking about the problem (which you're doing in the video) and then showing some examples.

All great comments, thank you. Point taken re. the Twitter clips, I'll be sure to include them either in the video itself or as other media for the PH launch - as you say, it could prove quite useful having examples after the problem statement.

        Good luck 🙂

Thanks! Whilst I only reduced the stock footage a little bit, I did make sure to include some examples on our launch! Would be interested to know what you think: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-chatty-mammoth

It's nice and gets the message across.

I'd say don't worry on making it perfect -- it's definitely a good start, and you'll get better in time.

P.S. This is a filmora template, right?

    1. 1

Thanks John! It's actually an InVideo template - perhaps they share an archive?

      1. 2

My bad 😁I don't think so, since each has their own formats.

        1. 1

True True! I'm glad we found the template - we ended up using it on our launch today! https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-chatty-mammoth woud be great to hear your feedback :)

            Upvoted, good luck!

Like the music! Be sure to use curly quotes—“” and ‘’, not "" and ''. I like the overall style, but the last end card feels out of place

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! I've never had anyone point out the difference between curly quotes and straight quotes. My keyboard defaults to the straight quotes - what is the difference between the two?
Also, by the last card do you mean the slide with the website on it, or the slide with "New Thoughts, Perspectives and Questions"

      1. 1

        More on quotes

The one with the website on it

        1. 1

A whole new world! Fascinating - never considered this before.

Then you’ll like this too hahaha https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/qanda/data/faq/topics/HyphensEnDashesEmDashes/faq0002.html but yea, good typography makes a difference!

            1. 2

Argh! My comments seem to be packed with errors—hopefully, this use of the em dash is correct.

I like it, it's clear what your're trying to sell, not sure how, but it is engaging, just a little pixeled

    1. 1

Thank you for your words of encouragement - I launched on PH today; would love to know what you think https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-chatty-mammoth

    2. 1

Thanks, Victor! I'll try to sort the resolution out - not sure why it came across pixellated.
