Is Notion reliable?

I've been seeing problems across Notion for the past couple of weeks. It went down entirely thanks to Amazon about 10 days ago, and just today I've been seeing odd IndexDB errors, preventing me from saving anything.

I'm thinking of building a product around Notion, but wonder if it's worth it if it keeps crapping out. Anyone have a product build around notion, and what's your experience been like with them?

I bet they'll get it fixed. They have enough funding that they'll get the talent needed to make the app more reliable. Most companies hit scaling issues when they get popular and Notion has gotten really popular in the past couple of years.

Whether you choose to build a product around Notion is really more about the general business risks of building a product that relies entirely on another company. It could be really worthwhile and profitable, but you are entirely at their mercy.

Only have good experience with Notion. Using it since they started and the overall level of quality increased over time. I wouldn't be worried.

That's great to hear! Thank you!

yep, its only had issue recently and they've been aws problems not notion issues

The recent problems are most like because of them working on the Public API. At least this is what I imagine. Notion got too famous across tech and startup ecosystem. But they are still quite a small team compared to what they deliver. There will be always some issues. But I don't think that's a problem.

The only thing that makes me sad about is they don't have a remote work option while they are one of the main tools of remote work stack :)

companies as big as Notion are too big for persistent engineering issues. I'm sure right at this moment they're charting a roadmap for more reliability. And this shouldn't be a decision making point for building on/for Notion.

Google went down. I'm sure android devs and youtube creators didn't change their business decisions.

I love notion, their UI is fantastic.

Would Airtable be a better option?

Was looking to move my database of biz strategies over to Notion but I don't like what I just read here.

Don't get me wrong, Notion is great! I've only experienced two issues with them so far. But I haven't been using it long enough to know if this is the norm or an exception. As everyone else says, it seems that their instability it's an exception.
