I’m currently trying find my feet when it comes to marketing my template business. Since I’m not trying to cater the classic business hustle niche, but rather the everyday normal person a bit more on the creative side, I’m having a hard time finding the right marketing platform. Of course there’s social media like Instagram and TikTok, but if you don’t go viral in a way it is so hard to get people from on there to your platform. Hence me trying to seek new platforms that might be more fitting. So, does anyone have and tips and experience on marketing their business through Pinterest? I’m so uncertain on how to go about it and grateful for any tips :)
Personally, I feel like Gumroad is amazing for templates (perhaps in addition to Pinterest)! As an experiment, I tossed up multiple free templates there and am getting lots of downloads/emails (+700 emails), and I don't even think I'm using it to its fullest potential (e.g. the potential for template sales on Gumroad is limitless). Here's my store for reference: https://kahana.gumroad.com/
As for Pinterest, I know of a Pinterest growth specialist named Kelsey Vetter: https://www.kelseyvetter.com/
Her clients earn a lot of revenue through Pinterest marketing.
She also created a hub about Pinterest growth that's paid only but may be less expensive than her services: https://app.kahana.co/hub/tHwAYvYPzqVwGPGzh10k
I wish I had more I could share about Pinterest marketing, I think it's a great platform that's under-utilized, but I'm ashamed I haven't utilized it enough. That's probably because my product is a SaaS, though.
Hi could you share about your experience on Gumroad. How you go the initial sales (that first order to roll in)?
Yes, I'd be happy to! I have some resources I've made in the past about Gumroad:
So far I just get sales from donations because all my products are freebies (I just am focusing on getting emails for now). But I think there's a big gap in the Gumroad market to focus on paid subscription products (it's what their algorithm prioritizes)
In any case, this thread is about Pinterest / templates, and I don't want to go off-topic. I'm happy to chat about this more if you connect w/ me on Twitter!
Thank you for sharing such an amazing source. I love your video. There's no doubt that in the current situation, everyone is focused on one-time payments. I love this strategy. I have a question - if you have made an awesome template for your niche, how do you market it on Gumroad and how do people see its value when all such data is already available?
What do you think if I share a solid strategy on "How to grow your SaaS business organically"? In this text, I will share a solid strategy for businesses that I have ranked, but I do not want to share the product name publicly due to competition. How do I tackle such things?
Glad you liked it! Honestly, i feel like that’s a wonderful idea for a product! As a founder of a SaaS company I’m certainly interested in a product like that! I’m definitely thinking about product-led SEO 😅
You may want to check out the Growth Hacking E-book inside of this hub: https://app.kahana.co/hub/wQGSB4z4lsjEnlLZyLVk
That resource is probably the best one I’ve seen for SaaS growth strategies - if you haven’t seen it before it’s a good example to refer to for your product.
As for marketing templates on gumroad, I think the graphics tend to matter a lot when it comes to people choosing to click through from discover, using a GIF as the thumbnail, and generally the amount of social proof on the content page is important - the more screenshots of testimonials you can add the better. That stuff is all table stakes though!
And while a lot of information is available, being creative in how you refurbish, revitalize it, or simple explain it from a different perspective can help set it apart!
thank you for sharing this i got your point!
Thanks for all the info and links, I really appreciate it. I already use Gumroad as my main channel. Your tips on that are really great too, I'll try it out.
Pinterest is definitely not dead! In fact, it can be a great platform for marketing your template business, especially if you're targeting a more creative audience.
It's important to note that Pinterest is still a relevant and valuable platform for marketing your template business, especially if you're targeting a creative audience.
To succeed on Pinterest, it's crucial to create visually stunning content that showcases your templates in action.
You can curate boards that highlight different themes or use cases for your templates, and then share images or videos that demonstrate how your templates can help create beautiful designs.
Optimizing your pins for search is also essential.
Be sure to use descriptive keywords in your pin titles and descriptions, and consider incorporating relevant hashtags to increase the visibility of your pins in relevant search results.
Wishing you the best of luck with your Pinterest marketing endeavors!
Thanks so much for your thoughts and wishes, that's really kind and encouraging.
No problem
Pinterest is a great platform but you need to post at least 3-4 times a day and then you might find traction on it, a colleague of mine didn't see any engagements for first 2 months and then suddenly in the third month managed to get 25-30 followers.
She mostly posted idea pins as they generate more traffic but I'm not sure if that would be the right call for you.
That's what I'm trying to figure out atm. It's so hard to tell whether it makes sense inout/output time wise. I'll have to see I guess. Anyways, thanks!
Wait, is Pinterest used for that?😅
Certainly, it's important to note that Pinterest is still an active and popular social media platform with millions of active users. Many people use Pinterest to share and discover content, particularly those related to fashion, home decor, food, and other visually appealing topics. If your website features content that aligns with these categories, then Pinterest can be an excellent platform to promote your site and attract new visitors. By creating high-quality pins that showcase your products or services, you can engage with potential customers and drive traffic to your website.
I also use Pinterest for my website https://racinggamesapk.net/ and it show better result
No, I think it's still a great place.
Marketing can be a real pain, especially when you're trying to reach a specific audience. If you're looking for a new platform to showcase your templates, Pinterest could be a great option.
To make the most of Pinterest, focus on creating visually appealing pins with catchy titles and descriptions. Optimize your pins for search with relevant keywords, and join group boards to get more visibility.
Oh, and don't forget to pin regularly - it's like watering a plant, except instead of a plant, you're growing your business. And just like with social media, engaging with your audience is key. So, get pinning and don't be afraid to show off your creative side!
And one question: you are talking about website templates?
In the past, I have utilized it for the commerce business, and it worked well. I have also tested it for the SaaS industry, but unfortunately, did not get good results.
However, I have found it to be an amazing source for graphic templates. You must try it, and I hope you will get good results.
This is because the traffic user profile, mostly dominated by women, is graphic-related, especially on Pinterest! People love the see the excellent graphic content there!
I think it largely depends on the niche. I have a content site in the home/garden niche, and it receives more traffic from Pinterest than any other social platform. I largely attribute that to the niche though as I've not had success with sites. Kind of hit or miss IMO.
@bowiesmarket 👋 I don't think it is dead and is in fact a really good distribution channel. The ramp up organically will take a lot of time so I would suggest spending a small amount to start getting inorganic distribution and followers to your pins or boards. This approach has served me well with 6000 thoughts . You can see my pins here :) https://pin.it/7JTARpQ
Thanks for the helpful insight! That's what I realized as well. I might try out your approach.
Pinterest might go dead but it still gets daily visits. Marketing takes efforts. Having few leads rather than zero is decent investment.
The important factor you should consider is that whether people would click on your Pinterest content to go further. Is there demand for click-bait content that you will publish.
Also, try searching for the keywords you plan to target. The quality & quantity of content available might give you an idea about performance of Pinterest.
To share my experience, I still go to Pinterest to get inspiration. The fields vary from simple quote, interior design, planners, journals, travel, business strategy, marketing, recipes, fitness. I find content on Pinterest genuine and well research. I usually end up reading a new blog post or finding new product on Etsy. I find it better than Instagram because of it's new related suggestions on my homepage.
Thanks for those encouraging words! I'm glad to hear that, I think it might make sense for me and I'll probably give it a try :)
Well, I've tried Pinterest a few times and for me it was dead 3 years ago. At one point it was called the next Instagram, don't make me laugh.
And what about the big platforms like envato, or are they too expensive?
Nope... Still im using pintrest and pintrest is not dead buddy.
Interesting! Can you share how you are using it? and what is your business?
Still, Pinterest is a valuable platform for promoting products, building brand awareness, and driving traffic to websites.
tap into popular narratives and create platform native content.
for example, Levels on twitter built an AI avatar app a tiktoker posted it and it exponentially grew his sales.
it capitalized on AI (popular narrative) and showed visually captivating images that appealed to peoples egos (they want to see what they will look like as a super hero/model etc.
since you're doing templates, a non-novel niche, figure out what makes yours unique and lean into it. If you have AI website templates hire a tik toker to show how they can throw a site together in 5 minutes with little code and make money day 1. maybe do how to make money/side hustle videos utilizing the template. just a thought.
Thanks for your thoughts, such great ideas I wouldn't have known. I really appreciate it!
Are your target customers likely to be on Pinterest?
